duratec head differences

Hello I'm new here, I have a 2005 ford focus zx3 duratec 20 w/ mtx75 5 speed transmission. Ive searched the forums but I cannot find an answer to this question. How would I confirm that I am getting a correct replacement cylinder for my car? I intend to buy a bare or used head and rebuild it with a set of mild crower cams. But I am unable to determine if the car has VVT, and i cannot find definite answers as to which cylinder heads would be different from my original 05 head.

Thanks everyone

No VVT on yours. here are matches:
05-07 Focus 2.0
~02.5-end 2.3 Ranger (used the 2.0 head because of the smaller intake ports for more torque)

Possible match: 04-05 Mazda 3 2.0L. These years did not have VVT and might be the same exact head

Upgrade:
03-07 Focus 2.3 (bigger intake ports, same exhaust)

I believe a Mazda 3 VVT head could be made to work with Massive's delete kit, but it wouldnt be worth the trouble because of how easy the above options are to find.

car-part.com is good for looking up junkyards, there are a lot of 05-07 2.0's in the 200 range in my area. whole engine! row52.com is also a good tool.

How about '08-'11 2.0 head?

Any differences that matter? AFAIK it can be substituted.

Thank you so now with some definite head options I can ask my next question. If I got the 03-07 focus 2.3 head with bigger ports will the engine still run properly without a tune? I know it willl not be at its full potential without a tune but will it run well and give me some power gains? I intend to get this tuner but I'm not sure how much it will be of help I am pretty new to tuning. SCT X4 Power Flash Ford Programmer ? FSWERKS

I would do the 2.3 head , Cosi knock off intake , surface the head for a little higher compression , header and 2.5 or 3 inch Exh , stg2 cams

I would also get a custom tune from me for many reasons

^^ thatd be a hot engine for not a lot of money. How much can you take off while running a set of crane or crower stage 2s? always thought those cams were pushing it on stock pistons

Itll run fine without a tune, but wont be optimal. Toms easy to work with if you want to go that route!

So I just bought a used 2004 focus 2.3 head, does this require a balance shaft delete kit for me to put on my motor?

As your using your 20 bottom end. I'd use the 23 i/m, as its a dual runner.

Sorry, I forgot to finish, no= only the 23,25's use a balance shafts. The bs are mounted in the bottom of the block & has nothing to do w/ the head.
