building a new engine

so im looking into building a new engine as a side project to eventually drop into my zx3 and turbo when ive got absolutely everything else taken care of.

so far im looking at a 2.0 duratec block, ive heard that a crankshaft out of an 09 miata is a good option for a beefier crank if i dont want to spend the cash on something like a cosworth.

my intent is to use some aftermarket cams, possibly stage 2s and ive heard that the oem cylinder head wouldnt be able to handle much over stage 1 and ive been having a hard time finding a viable option as far as heads go so if anyone has some input id appreciate it.

Id also like some suggestions on pistons as well as things like oil pans/pump systems because im assuming if im going to make a "high perf" engine the oem ones probably wont work as well.

if i can find one in stock im going to go with the cosworth manifold and possibly an fswerks exhaust header coupled with either their stealth or race exhaust system.

any input would be appreciated, im planning on picking up the block this weekend. thanks

and would also be interested in hearing about any transmission work i should be planning (if any) to handle the engine, ive got the mtx75 in it right now.

What building the motor for? Another words what are you looking for? Have you thought about going turbo? 1st nothing wrong w/ the mtx, add a Steeda shifter. Next what ever motor, you'll want a 23 head. Now a 23 is going to make more power & grunt then a 20 & rods/pistons are slightly less then for a 20. Have you thought of a 25 motor? A 23,25 do a bsd. The oil pump & pan work= no issues. If you want you can add a windage tray. btw the 23 has a dual runner int/manifold. A great dder setup is a 23 w/ mild cams, header, bsd, udp's. What do you have for suspension?

Spend lots of time reading here before buying pieces, plenty of options to consider.

2.3 head outflows the intakes/exh. so you avoid any desire to port it when using that one.

2.3 or 2.5 for a bottom end for displacement/torque.

Turbo plans changes everything, it's a different build when planning for that vs. N/A. NO point to an N/A build if later going turbo, you'd change it ALL again. Low compression vs. high, different cams, they don't interchange at all once completed.

Stock engine can handle a turbo to reasonable HP levels, but a "built" one can't. Turbo built engine is great for more HP, but save it on the side until you're ready to do the whole thing.
