Update: it's been about 2k miles and no issues. No CELs, hard starts, no sputtering, no stalling.

I ended up using a Spectre coupler to replace that plumbing coupler. I can't remember off the top of my head what the part number for the elbow was, but it's a 45 degree bend. Here's a pic of what it looks like now.

Did you opt out of the shield or is it still on the to-do list?
I'm looking for a filter w/o the chrome. Simply rubber on the ends would be fine. Any ideas?

I just haven't made the heat shield a priority. I got a vented CF hood that helped tremendously with heat soak so the heat shield has more or less become unnecessary.

Google Spectre part # HPR8038. That might be what you're looking for.

Did the CEL appear after the intake? Maybe check how the MAF is situated in the intake tube?
