Awesome thread and your enginuity is very admirable but what seems to be the problem with the CFM TB? Every review I read on the TB says "it was an awesome upgrade" or "didnt run into one problem and the engine runs great". Is it a tuning issue that can be worked out or is it really just "to much" air going through the stock MAF?

Just found a extra for sell, torn apart and back together soon. Though my hollow screw tips broke. Ill be sure to add some extra lock tight.

Works great! Four observations of interest.

I did this recently -- and it works great. Four things of interest:

1. Here is a third "trick" regarding the epoxy seal over the idle adjustment screw (see tb1999's other two tricks in post #5). If you can't get all of the epoxy removed, but can get your torx bit part way into the screwhead, heat the screw by sticking a small-tip soldering iron into the screwhead. Keep your finger on the black plastic, nearby, and when it start feeling pretty hot the epoxy will be soft enough to turn the screw. You may need to repeat the heating a time or two.

My screw was totally stuck. Without the heat I couldn't budge the screw, even with a small vise-grips on the stub end (unthreaded part) of the screw.

2. As mentioned by others above, I have avoided replacing the epoxy; instead using a machine screw with lock nut. The diameter is 5mm, and a length of 20 or 30mm is fine.

3. This is a fast job (less than an hour), and is a good opportunity for some important preventive maintenance. This is the second time I have removed my throttle body. Two years ago the throttle totally stuck, and even a lot of force on the throttle pedal wouldn't break it loose. The car had worked fine when I parked it, and when I came out of a store it stuck solid. The problem was carbon loading on the throttle plate. Now, two years later there was a lot of carbon build-up and the action was a bit sticky in the closed position. So, this modification probably has saved me another incident, and serves as a reminder to do this PM periodically.

4. There was an earlier question about the effect of this modification on mileage. I can report that at worst there is no effect unless it makes your driving more aggressive. However, it has helped my mileage because the throttle action is more predictable, am careful with the pedal, and it aids some of my hypermile techniques.
