Unless it is heads up/bracket racing, don't even worry too much about the RT. It doesn't matter if you are trying to get a best time. Spend more time on making the 60ft better. The lower the 60ft, the faster the quarter mile. Launch as high as you can without causing wheel spin and that will help. On a five speed, wrap it up to 6500-7000rpm (depending on modification and particular engine) before shifting into the next gear. That will place you higher in the power band when you enter the next gear.
Unless you are running faster than a 15.5, most people never need to shift into 4th in a 5 speed through the quarter mile. Even with 3.82 gears I used to stick 15.6x at the very tip top of third, 3.42 guys should be less worried about getting that close to the rev limiter. Even though your power is dropping off very quickly on the other side of peak, you will still get a better time than if you dropped out of power by shifting.
