So I went to Milan Dragway today, and am not happy with the turnout. I know it was good practice, but every single run I made, I either
A) Bogged down out of the hole
B) Spun the tires all the way through 1st gear
C) Popped out of 1st gear >:0
D) Had horrble wheel hop (I mean horrible)
I am 99% positive I have a bad dogbone mount, my drivetrain was sure making alot of noise and I couldnt keep my tires planted. I had my Koni's set to maximum stiffness. I left my brand new GY Eagle RS-A's at the normal 32-35 psi. I had 1/2 tank of gas before the hour drive there, so probably halfway between 1/4 and 1/2 tank. Luckily I felt like there was ZERO clutch slip, which makes me happy. Just changed oil and trans fluid to full synthetic yesterday, and list of mods are:
00' zx3 zetec
Lowering springs with Koni Yellows, Volant Intake, BBK 65mm TB, Ported IM, Underdrive pulley, STS, Ebay 4-1 header (soon to be replaced by a beautiful wrapped SVT header in my trunk) and full 2.5" exhaust with Magnaflow Resonator and Muffler. I don't have a scanner for the time slip, but here is exactly what my time sheet says.

I made 5 total runs, but that was my first and best time, I ran as slow as an 18.35 when I dumped the clutch and popped out of first gear. The good news is, I did drastically improve my Reaction time (.2118, .1841, .0730, .0579)
What happened, what can I do to improve my times?
you may want to learn to slip the clutch, you'll get alot better 60' times. (and no, i didn't get a shot at anything, but my buddy shot a 9 and i was tracking it for him)
i thought i would at least get a drag 101, i went in there not knowing anything about what to do, and had to ask people as i went. so I'm not supposed to dump the clutch? i did that every time. when you going hunting again?

Yeah just dumping the clutch isnt a good idea. What RPM are you launching from? You have tha same basic mods as I do, I've ran a 16.2 16.3 several times now. So with practice you should be able to at least hit that.
well my RT was so bad the first time cause I didnt even know when to launch so I waited for the green lol. I launched anywhere from 2-4k (from 4k all I did was spin) am i supposed to burn out prior? everyone else was, so I did too. I did skip the water and just did it on dry pavement. on the street I always dump it during a drag and I always hook up promptly. is something different about drag surface?
^^That and where are you shifting at? It's alright to launch a little soft, also let some more out air out your tires, I find that 20-25 psi seemed to work best for me. I also shifted at 6500rpm's, any sooner and I would be in the 16's. my best time was a 15.7 @ 88 mph and that was with way less mods than I have now. Last time at the track I easily ran a 15.8 when before I had to try hard to get. Also practice, practice, practice. I have lot's of runs on my car. You will learn it just takes time and sometimes parts lol
yea once I got going I shifted beautifully and tried keeping the shift points at 6k. don't need to blow up my only ride on the first time at the strip. I usually got to 4th gear just before the end of the track, but there was one time that I revved the SHHH out of it and just left it in 3rd till I hit the finish line. that would be 85 in 3rd gear. Is that good or should I always upshift at redline?
remember, a bone stock zx3 5 Spd does the quarter in 16.80 (according to the sticky at the top of the drag race thread) all my mods and i was ony .13 quicker [:(]
85 at the top of 3rd is perfect, dont shift to 4th. YOur launch should be from about 2500-3000.
Looks like you were running pro tree? Thats really hard to learn on.
gotta feather the clutch when launching. its prevents bogging and wheel spin. alittle bit of spin off the line is ok. id hold the rpms between 2500 and 3000 rpm and let the clutch out till just before itd catch while staged. on 3rd yellow let it out a bit and get out of the whole and then full out.
i always kept my pressure between 25-30 psi on bfg gforce sports when i raced the zx3.
shifting 6200-6500 rpm.
get around the water box and get lined up in the "grove" and spin the tires alittle bit which coats them with vht/sticky rubber left there from the other cars.
