rcz, not trying to dash your dreams, but Pyle is not known for making quality equipment. Even if the fit and finish is there, longevity is not their strong suit. Been that way their whole mobile electronics career and now with ALL the electronics they make (alarm clocks, etc). Cheap. But who knows. It might work out well for ya. Like you said, Amazon will take the return if you don't like it.
I installed it last weekend. It's going back.
The fit and finish is indeed there. It looks good, IMO, leaps and bounds better than the Metra fascia. It was a breeze to install and zero splicing was required.
The software sucks, though. It runs on Windows CE 6.0, which was released more than 10 years ago and Microsoft stopped supporting altogether almost 4 years ago. It looks very close to the software that ran the Microsoft Zune (iPod competitor from back in the day). I didn't even bother with the navigation since I have (and prefer) Google Maps on my phone, but on the radio setting it doesn't show the station name, artist, program, anything...just the station frequency. I don't know if that requires "HD Radio" or what, but my old $100 Pioneer head unit had it and I don't like not having it anymore. When I stream Pandora from my phone, it shows nothing at all. The screen is mostly blank with only controls. I can't turn off the automatic switch to the backup camera (which I don't have) when I put it in reverse, so it just displays "No Signal". It came with a CAN bus adapter and SWC module, but the steering wheel controls don't work. I don't know if it's busted or loose or it's the "line in" SYNC requirement that I missed, but it's annoying.
Add to all of that your point (which I don't doubt) about the quality and longevity, and it's not worth it. So back it goes!
My question now is this: with the exception of the Scosche / CARAV / Spiral Audio fascia and the head unit itself, what exactly do I need to make a "standard" stereo work with the Ford system (including steering wheel controls)? Crutchfield tells me I need the following, which is another $112 or so if I buy them from Amazon:
Metra / Axxess XSVI-5524-NAV (CAN data interface)
Metra 40-EU10 (antenna adapter)
Metra ASWC-1 (steering wheel control)
Y'all mention the Maestro RR...is that a better option? I see that it's web-programmable and (I assume) able to be used in a different car (with compatible harness) if I wanted to restore the stock stereo to the Focus?
If that's the case, I should only need the Maestro RR (ADS-MRR) and FO2 harness (HRN-RR-FO2) harness, correct? Or do I need a standard antenna adapter, as well? I don't need the satellite radio to work, so the SAT1 accessory isn't necessary. That's only about $126.
One final question: any of you seen an adapter that converts a double DIN slot into a single DIN with pocket? I don't particularly care for the majority of the double DIN options at my pricepoint (the Sony WX-900BT at Best Buy for $110 is probably the best option for me), but I'd love to get a single DIN HU and just put a pocket in there. I would assume that single and double DIN slots are standard; you'd think there'd be a "standard" pocket you could put in to make up the difference. Maybe I'm just searching for the wrong thing.
Anyway, TIA! I don't think post was off-topic, but my apologies if it seems that way.
