May be a dumb question but I tried to update my software and I downloaded the software and unzipped it and put that folder into a USB drive. When I inserted it into my car, it said it couldn't find the software it said. So my question is how exactly I do it? I thought I followed the instructions from ford but I failed.
aca2983 provided you with a good point. The USB needs to be formatted to FAT32 before saving the unzipped files. Check out these links for the proper download and installation steps:
I've given up trying to update it, I don't like the part of turning your car on to update it and you can't be driving while you update it. Ford really should come up with a better way to update instead of having to sit in your car with it in for up to 20 minutes with it running to update your electronics
1) Ensure the vehicle is in an open area were exhaust fumes may dissipate naturally. Start the vehicle’s engine and insert the USB drive, ignore any messages about media playback. The engine must remain running until the update has completed.
2) Press the Phone button to access the SYNC menu
3) Press the down arrow until you see Return, press OK
4) Press the down arrow until you see Advanced, press OK
5) Press the down arrow until you see Install Application, press OK twice to confirm
6) Listen to the in-vehicle prompts regarding the status of the installation
The latest release of SYNC V4.6 software includes new features such as streamlining help commands. SYNC offers the corresponding help prompts only to the area that you're using. The enhanced phonebook search allows you to browse and scroll through your contacts, alphabetically. AppLink is now available in Canada and Mexico. Now, AppLink can be controlled in English, French (Canadian) and Spanish (Mexican). Also, SYNC reboot allows you to quickly restart the SYNC system to facilitate communication between your phone and SYNC, without repairing your device or performing a master reset.
I've tried everything in this thread. I finally was able to make something happen with the SYNC in my car but things are worse now. It said SYNC rebooted but I'm not so sure. My car was running for an hour and a half with the USB plugged in and nothing seems to have happened, except now SYNC is gone! My screen says "Re-insert USB" permanently, unless I insert the USB, which does nothing else but remove the error. Is there some way I can "reset" all of this? Some way that I can go back to the beginning when I never tried to do this update? I just want my car to work again.
Man I wish I never tried to do this. Everything worked great before.
I have tried on many occasions to update the Sync software on my 2014 Focus (1st Gen Sync), but I get frustrated and give up. I have tried several different USB sticks. The current one I am using is formatted as FAT32. When I get to the Install Applications prompt, I hit OK. It says Installing Application, but after about 10 seconds I get the announcement that the installation has failed. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
