Stock alternator capabilitys

Well first post.
I come from a having a diesel truck that has a oversized alternator and dual batteries. WIth 2 15" subs. So going from that to a focus is a lil weird.

I will be installing 1 15" in the truck space. It is a alpine Type R. Rms is 750.
The amp powering it is a Alpine mrx-m240. Wired at 2 ohms the amp can push 2500 watts. But i wont be anywhere near that.

Its fuse is 170, so im sure its well under that. I also will be installing a HAM radio. That at its highest setting is 50 watts.

i Have already ran 1/0 cable to the back. with a good ground. Also im about to do the big three.

My question is will the stock alternator handle the above listed.

Im thinking as long as i upgrade the battery to a yellow top, xs or Kinetik, along with the big three. I should be fine.

Any help would be great.

Stock alternator is 110A, I believe.

So, since you're not going to run that amp full out, let's look at the 750W the sub is rated for.

Now, let's put a ballpark number on what it takes to keep the car running:

ECM: 5A
Fuel Pump: 10A
Cooling Fans: 20A
Lights: 15A
A/C: 25A

There's 75A just to keep the car running and comfortable to sit in.

Don't forget the head unit will probably want about 5A to light up.

So we're at 130 now, and haven't even charged the battery.

As for your HAM. The 50w is the transmit power, not the power it uses.

^^^ BTW, that 53.5A calculation is at 100% efficiency which is, by nature, impossible. At a much more realistic number of 85%, you're pulling ~63A. And while I admit music is dynamic and you won't be drawing that constantly, I'll bet dollars to donuts you'll have that gain set high enough to output more than 750W anyway. So I'll consider the two points a wash.

Point being, the stock alt ain't cuttin it. And just upgrading the battery under the hood will have minimal impact.

I think you can have a company make you one. Not cheap though.

Thanks all. Big 3 is already done

I will look into those sites.

Found that there are no rebuilders in my area. Don't know if I should find a Craigslist alternator and send that in to get re-done or what.
