Is your car running or is it when it's off? iPhone cords are notoriously pieces of crap. What I did was get the iPhone to mini USB adapter, best $30 I've ever spent. Those things last and usb cords are like $2, so if they go bad it's not a big deal

This is the closest thread to what I'm after, so here goes.

I plugged my iPhone 6 into the USB port to charge it but got no response from the phone or the car that the phone was charging.
I have looked through the manual.

Any input would be welcome. I'm a relative techno novice, so be gentle.
Thanks

Does the cable work outside of the car? If it does you need to check the fuses for the USB port to see if they blew. to find the fuse you will need to look at your owner's manual. Failing that let the dealer figure it out since you should still be under warranty.

I've never had a problem with the USB causing the problem. Mine usually die from them being kinked near where they plug into the iPhone. The Apple original cords are under a one year warranty from the time you purchased your phone. I've replaced several for free under warranty.

The cords are working with the wall adapter. I forgot to mention I tried using a 12-volt adapter through that port. The light on the adapter came on but no indication my phone was charging.

Not sure the amperage of that USB port, but most modern phones require 2.1-2.5A minimum. The iPhone 6's, Galaxy phones, Notes, all the big boys. Maybe that USB port is more for xfering music, not charging devices. That's why the cables work with your wall charger and would likely work with a cig socket to USB adapter.
