best speakers for my system

So I recently bought a used 02 SVT at a good price and I'm looking in to upgrading the audio system which sounds "lacking." I'm not going for giant bass or rumbling seats but just want to get a little better quality sound and a head unit that can handle Bluetooth, etc.

I got a good deal on this stereo from a buddy of mine and will be installing it as soon as I figure out what else I should have for my system.

Pioneer DEH-X8700BH CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

It's MOSFET and claims to push 14Wx4 RMS. If I plan to install a small 50Wx4 amp in the future to power the four speakers, what are some appropriate speaker specifications I should look for when finding speakers (Wattage, Ohms, ect.) I've read 75%-150% of amp wattage. What speakers could I install without the 50Wx4 amp that would sound good now as well as down the road when I do install the amplifier?

I also wonder if the amplifier is really necessary? Again, I don't really blast my music but I've heard that having more power to my speakers will improve the clarity even at lower volumes.

I also plan to wire the stock SVT sub amp and sub to the head unit. (may be replacing the sub with an appropriate shallow mount 8" sub down the road as well, but keeping the stock amplifier)

Any help on what I should get for a good low powered set up would be great. I've read a lot but I'm just a beginner and would love some guidance before I waste money on some speakers that wouldn't fit the sound of my system or on amplifiers that I don't truly need.

Thanks guys

A few good speakers that come to mind to work well off headunit and off a smaller amp are jl audio tr or c2 series. Rockford punch series. Mtx thunder series. Kicker ks series. Kenwood excelon line except the 1800 models. The main advantage from an external amp outside of power is the lower thd and dampnening factor which very basically is the amps ability to control cone movement.

As was said, an amplifier will give you greater power with lower distortion. Many people on this forum have been using the Alpine 445U power pack.

As for speakers, I'd encourage you to get out there and listen to as many sets as you can. For every lover of a particular speaker, there's someone who doesn't like em. People hear sound differently. You're the one who has to drive around in it every day. Whichever sounds the best to you is your best choice. Just remember that you generally get what you pay for. So those $40/pr speakers may not last more than 6 months even though you might like how they sound.
