Has anyone added NAV to the MFT after they purchased their focus?

Has anyone been able to add NAV to their MFT after they left the dealership?

There's been some extensive research/testing on this... not sure it was ever able to work, you'd have to search around or maybe one of those who tried will jump in with an answer.

Heard it was not possible to do so afterwards.

No it can't officially be done outside of the factory, the dealers cannot install navigation after the fact.

That is short of taking the APIM from a car that had navigation enabled from the factory and installing it in the other car.

I.e. if you salvage the module from a wrecked car it may work, but there is still the risk that during an update you'd lose the navigation portion of the software as it's based on your VIN.

This... and I think there was even an issue someone had trying to source all the parts required for this route as well... it's a LOT more hassle than it's worth especially when after 2+ years nav owners are still having some issues.

Just invest the money in a nice Garmin unit and enjoy having your map displayed in its entirety at the same time you have your entertainment displayed on the MFT screen! That's what I do!

I'm pretty sure if you do a search, there was one member who bought a MFT unit with NAV on ebay, and it was a direct swap into his car and worked fine.

Hmm, I've had other issues with MFT but Nav has always worked as it should. It's one of the best features of having that large screen.

I just said this was technically possible, but it's a lot more work than it's worth in the first place, and if you wanted to buy the upgrade from your dealer afterwards it can't be done..

It's also so fragile based on the next MFT update being able to take navigation away even on cars that were built with Navigation when it malfunctions during the installation. The as built data for the car would not show navigation, and neither would the vin on sync my ride, so you'd need the vin from the wrecked car for updates, assuming it would still be valid after it was totaled and the warranty removed.
