I'm looking into getting an aftermarket head unit for my 2nd gen. I love my Sirius radio, and I want to keep it. I know that I need to get a separate Sirius tuner and the adapter to interface with the head unit. I remember reading somewhere that the stock Sirius goes through the stock antenna, is this possible to do with the aftermarket tuner as well? Does anyone know if it is a separate antenna plug that gets plugged into the stock head unit, and can I just plug that into the aftermarket tuner?
Thanks guys (and gals)!
There's quite a few units on the market now that have the Sirius satelite radio built into the head unit. Why don't you just get one of these? I don't believe they need any seperate antenna anymore. Of course, I could be wrong. The last time I had Sirius I had a seperate Sirius radio that was jacked into the installed head unit. So it's been a few years.
If you get a kenwood dvd deck that supports Idatalinks new Mastro you can Actually keep all your Sync related Items. Like S/r Voice Commands and so forth
I'm not worried about sync. The wiring harness already takes care of that. Its the fact that Sirius is incorporated into the stock head unit, so once I get a new head unit, I need a new way of getting Sirius.
And I thought that you needed a separate Sirius tuner. I know most headunits are capable of Sirius, XM, or SiriusXM, but I thought you needed the tuner. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_61055_Pioneer-AVH-P4400BH-CD-IU201V-iPod-Cable.html?show_tab=1 Look at the Sirius tab, it says you need a box to make it work. If there are any units that have it already incorporated into the head unit, please share!
The Sirius module is built in to the head unit on yours. The stock antenna can be used, but you will need to get the Sirius module for whatever head unit you get.
Thank you Kipp, you have confined what I thought. So if I bought this head unit and this tuner I should be good? I'm just curious if there is a separate plug in for the Sirius part of the antenna in the stock headunit. If so, does that plug into the antenna in on the Sirius tuner, or does the aftermarket HU pull the signal directly from the antenna in?
The stock antenna should be a pressure clip plug on the back of the head unit. You can use it with the aftermarket sat receiver, but you may need to remove the plastic housing on it for it to fit. All sat antennas are the same.
