Installing aftermarket radio control unit question or for anyone with an SVT
I am installing an aftermarket headunit and steering wheel control unit to the car so I can have my steering wheel controls work also. Well I can't seem to figure out if the wiring for the control unit is correct. The car came with a hacked off harness for the controls and sub so I had to buy one and solder the connections together. I'm wondering if the 2 brown/yellow wires are flip flopped? If they were would the steering wheel controls still work? Comming out of my car I have 2 dark brown and yellow wires. My buddy and the connector that I bought has a dark brown yellow and light brown yellow combo. My friends SVT has the light yellow wire running along with all the other wires and the dark brown wire running with the sub wires through some kind of foil. On my car one of the wires runs through it's own shield and the other runs with all the other wires. Right now I have the ground wire for that cable hooked up to the one that runs by itself in it's own housing. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is actually pin12 or the one that is on the right side if you are looking at the red part of the plug? Let me show you some pics to see if that can help you out.

I bought this as I was told to buy.

Not sure if you can tell but the light brown wire I connected to one of the dark brown wires. The one I connected it to runs through it's own little shield to whereever on the car. The other darker brown wire I connected the to other dark brown wire.

i wish i could help you, but this is beyond me. i do have a question since you have it all hung out (so to speak). does your car and the inspected car have the same factory equipment? i know that SOME svts had the sub in the back and the audiophile head. i do not know if ALL svts had all the same wiring, just varied equipment...

opps. Didn't even notice that sorry. Chris it looks funny because I twisted the wires together and then wrapped them in on each other if that makes any sense. so it's like doubled this

im about to do this soon. did you get it to work? you have pics or something?

the whole crutchfield kit includes everything to make the wheel controls work?

I did complete it actually. If you want the steering wheel controls you also need to purchase the second unit which is around 80 bucks. Almost more than the damn cd player but worth it IMO.

I could have swore I started a thread on this but I guess I didn't?!? Here you go!

First I soldered together the 2 connectors you get from crutchfield with the kit.
Then I went ahead and soldered the proper wires together that are needed for the steering wheel controls
I had to extend some wires, I also added a body ground, which probably wasn't necessary for the steering wheel controls since I probably could have just used the ground that the regular new connector has on it
Everything soldered together
Finished end result
Although now the stupid knobs don't look like that :)

oh yes I forgot to keep the stock sub you need to wire in the audio cable for the sub. It's not that bad...if you need directions on that I can look them up. I still coulda swore I started a thread on this, but I guess not lol.

ummmm for $80 i think ill just stretch my arm a few more inches and control de damn radio where it sits...

anyways. I was about to order the kit on crutchfield and i did select the option where i can keep my sub, so im guessing everything is included?

don't think so on that one. You would probably still need to get an audio cable (you probably have an old one sitting at home) from old composite cables and wire it in. just either the white or red composite cable from the set will work. Cut it to length and strip it. Be VERY careful when you strip it though the wire is thin and finely stranded. There is a thread on here somewhere about it.
