Does '07 ZX3 require speaker harnesses?

OK a little back story first...

In late 2004 I had an aftermarket sound system put in my Escort ZX2. Four months later in 2005 the car died and I had all the audio stuff taken back out (installation and removal done by Best Buy). All of this stuff has been sitting unloved in a box in my basement until now. I've leased a new '07 ZX3 and my friend's fiancee said he'd help me put my sound system in it.

Last night I looked at my aftermarket speakers for the first time in a couple years, and all the wiring from the speakers, screws, brackets, etc. are not there- I guess Best Buy left them in my old car and gave me back just the speakers and deck- I never checked, I just assumed they gave me back all the pieces.

Since the aftermarket speaker wires are missing, can I just have the stock speaker wires connected to my speakers or will that sound bad? Also, the car audio store I bought the new dash kit and harness for my ZX3 at insists I don't need speaker harnesses (and they don't have any for sale anyways). But since my car's a lease, I can't have anything messing with any of the stock wiring, so I think I need harnesses. Do I or don't I?

And if I do need speaker harnesses, if anyone out there is willing to sell 2 pairs of Metra or Scoche ones to fit my car please let me know- these are basically impossible to find in Canada and on Ebay sellers want $20 to ship a pair of harnesses selling for $8.

Thanks!

you can just cut the wires behind the stock connector (leaving enough to put it back on later) and crimp on the proper conectors to put in the aftermarket speakers.

He stated its a leased car, and he doesn't want to risk anything for when he has to return the car. Do this, goto www.crutchfield.com and tell them what kind of car you have, then add speakers to the shopping cart, and it will show any adapters needed.
