You definitely won't have everything needed, but you will have the one component that everything else in a turbo setup is built around. You're going to need a lot more, though. I should be directing you towards the sticky and I noticed in your thread that you've already been referred to it, but here's a quick and dirty list of what you will basically need:
  • Manifold with a TD05 inlet flange (you can get one from weirtech, bmcrace, jgstools, etc)
  • Downpipe (you could use the O2 housing from a 14b or T25 turbo off the 1g and 2g DSMs. otherwise, to make your own, you'll need a downpipe flange from one of the aforementioned companies)
  • Charge Piping (I can include the J pipe for this turbo so you don't have to worry about making a flange for the start of the hot side piping)
  • Intercooler (you can find front mounts on ebay for pretty cheap these days. im running one and it's working great)
  • Blow off valve (you can get a DSM BOV for like $20 from DSMSource.com)
  • 42 lb/hr or higher injectors
  • MAF (there's a lot of options for this, but the most common I've seen on here is a 2.5" or 3" MAF tube with the diablo sport MAFia whathaveyou)
  • Oil lines (I got a complete kit including a T for the tap, and a return line, drain flange, and fittings for tapping into the oil pan, etc. from Tuner Toys/Stealthmode Performance)
  • Larger exhaust (2.5" to 3" seems to be the best)
  • Tune (custom dyno tune from a reputable tuner typically using an SCT Xcal2 or 3)
  • Gauges: oil psi, boost, and some kind of wideband are sufficient


I replaced it after a little under 1000 miles of barely using it at all because I wanted a smaller turbo that spooled quicker. I do more daily driving and want to get into rally crossing, so a turbo that spools up real fast is more ideal for me. It still works great and pulls hard, even at 7 psi. What you're seeing is nothing to be concerned about. It's just the color of the exhaust housing, nothing more.
