Anyone know where I can find one? (Gearbox - but not for a car)

Hiya!

I'm looking around for a purpose-built gearbox without the purpose-built part... lol the cheaper the better. Budget is like $300-400

There are two possible configurations that would work.

1) 2-speed high/low
2) 5- or 6-speed sequential

Reverse gear is not required per se, but it would be VERY nice...

It needs to handle 15 ft.lbs of torque sustained, and torque spikes that any normal off-road vehicle would see. It needs to be light, like less than 25lbs if possible. Max weight for the sequential like 50 lbs.

I have looked around at lawn tractors and ATV's, but nothing seems to fit the requirements...

ideas?

PS there are sponsorship and beta testing opportunities if your employer or company would be interested... possible customer base of over 200 teams internationally...

Single-occupant off-road race vehicle. independent front suspension, solid rear axle. Rear drive.

We have refined our design and need it to handle at least 5000 inch pounds sustained, plus torque spikes upon landing jumps. The two-speed with reverse is looking to be the better option right now.

I actually started to design one myself, and I'm gonna try to use a gearset out of an old 2-stroke suzuki. The 1.71:1 and 0.83:1 (second and fifth gears) should work fine if I can get the shafts arranged like I want to. Plus I have designed a reverse selector. If you have any better ideas let me know, the time constraints may prove to be a problem for me building this thing.

Wouldn't a gearbox from a Quad (ATV) work?
Never mind...I hadn't made it to your lawn tractor or ATV comment yet.
Sorry about that.

What engine type does this gearbox need to bolt up to?
What about a tranny from a shifter kart?

ATV trannys are WAY too heavy. The whole car would ideally be less than 400 lbs. It's basically a roll cage on wheels. Primarily 1.25" .049 and .065 chromoly (4340 steel).

I don't want to bolt it up to an engine, we would run a chain reduction to the input shaft, and a driveshaft to the axle.

I'll look into shifter carts, but dont they have combined crankcase/transmissions? I'd rather not have to make a case.
