ABS light still on AFTER the ring.

Hey everyone.
On my 2006 Focus I just replaced the rear drum. ABS light came on after install. I come here and see all of the posts about installing the ring from the old drum onto the new one. Pop the ring off of old drum and put it on the new one, with no evidence of damage. Looks nice, fit, and snug on new drum.

Put everything back together...... And the ABS light is still on.

Soooo does anyone have any thoughts on what it takes to make the light disappear?
Will a cheap code scanner from the parts store reset the light, or is that for "check engine" only?

A cheap scan tool will not do anything but just that, scan and erase codes. Some of them are able to give you live global obd datastream but that's it. What you would need is a bi-directional scan tool that can do abs. About the cheapest one that will do that is the autel, which for the price is a great scan tool to buy for yourself.

But yeah to check why the light is on you would need more than just the cheapest scanner, the cheap ones wouldn't even see or talk with the abs module. Once you have a scan tool that can do it you can check the abs codes and see why the light is on and reset the codes. You can even check each sensor and bleed the abs pump and other stuff if it's necessary, but you need a proper scan tool.

Are you sure the abs sensor wasn't damaged during the install? Or unplugged and forgotten? Or the ring was damaged?

It's hard to say for sure without seeing why the light is even on, it may have nothing to do with the work you just did. It could be somewhere else and just a coincidence

If it was just the ring I'd clear the code and wait. It doesn't usually instantly turn off. If the is an actual problem it will come back on again. You can scan it again but my bet is to just get a new ring.

With the few drums I've done it took 1-3 days.

Don't think the rear drums changed that much through the years...
