Drum to Disc conversion on 05

First of all, are the brakes the same on all Foci? It would make sense that they are.

The main question:

What would be all required to do a complete swap to rear disc from rear drum on a Focus. I would most likely use parts from FocusSalvage.com.

Thanks.

I was looking around for this and from what i can gather you need the spindle, rotors, calipers, pads, hoses, and that is all i could find i needed, if anyone knows anything else please add it i don't want to miss anything when i do it either.

This subject has been debated to death. The bottom line is that there is no simple replacement. There are plenty of aftermarket kits but they are expensive and not always a direct or simple bolt on. In addition, almost all the aftermarket kits have rotor diameters and pads larger than the stock fronts. This can result in more brake bias to the rear which is just the opposite that you want for street driven cars. I'm guessing that most of the manufactures of the rear kits assume the fronts will be upgraded too. You're now talking mega dinero to do both and its questionable that the expenditure results in that significant of a braking improvement. The drums may not be pretty but they do perform more than adequately for most driving. If you want to make a braking improvement consider a performance pad and shoe combo like Mintex AF's and if needed replace you front rotors with quality ones like Brembo blanks (no drilling or slots).

I'm not talking about aftermarket replacements, I'm talking about just using the rear brakes from another Focus with FACTORY rear disc.

I know aftermarket replacements are costly, that's why I posted that I would be using salvage parts in my original post.

He knows what you are saying but he is right if you take a svt rear setup your rear disc will be larger than your front setup and then you would need 17's, if you are set on doing it make sure you upgrade the fronts with a bigger setup as well, heck just get the svt setup for that as well, you will also need the caliper brackets for the rear forgot to put that.

Well, 17" wheels wouldn't be a problem, because that's what I'm going to be getting. But I was looking on the FocusSalvage.com site, and they had listings for rear rotors that supposedly were not from an SVT?

some non svt foci's have factory rear discs - ZTS's? or loaded zx3' 5's - these were only an option with ABS and trac control, and the rear disc would fit in at least 14" or 15" wheel.
i read about it here before...

I think the S2's had rear disc, but they had 16's on them, still you will need all the stuff i listed before.

I know the 2005 ST has rear disc brakes, but if I get the parts from a salvaged Focus, it'll be easier than ordering them from my parts department, even with my dealer discount.

My Focus has factory 16" wheels.
