Why mod the suspension?

Before I bought my focus SE hatch (non-sport) a month ago, I drove a 98 chevy cavalier for 13 years then a ford taurus for < 1 year. I never thought much of those cars' suspensions, but the rides were comfortable. The Focus definitely has the "tightest" suspension of any car I have owned, and I really do enjoy it. It has been an adjustment, though, as I have to pay better attention to potholes in the road so I don't get jostled all over the place.

I have been assuming that when people mod their suspension, they are trying to get it even "tighter." Is that the case? I don't know that I could handle that. What's everyone's motivation for suspension mods? Thanks!

Alan

Kind of like bewbs, some are built for comfort and others for speed. What you prefer is sometimes by choice and sometimes because its all that's available to you.

I was looking to adjust the ride height and get the stance I wanted. Didn't like the look of the rear with the new 17" I put on it. Also wanting to correct the clunk up front. The better dampening when driving spirited will be a bonus too

Dropping it down and reducing the wheel gap between the tire and fender make the car look so much better.

I dropped mine for the improved looks and handling. The Eibach Pro springs stay under 1" drop to keep with factory geometry and they aren't much 'tighter' than stock. But I am one that prefers a stiff ride, so it doesn't bother me much.

keep the tires in place and allows you to turn faster and grip better. Also less bodyroll

Psshhh, because race car, duh!

Sorry, had to do it. I haven't modded my Focus suspension yet, but plan to in the future. Other things to take care of first, but it is one of the top 3 on my list. I prefer the tighter ride and handling, not to mention I like the looks of a lowered vehicle. Not slammed, lowered...

Unsurprisingly enough, a few hundred dollars in my wallet look so much better.
