Probably just condensation buildup on the brakes.

do you mean depressing the brakes to shift out of park, or depress the brakes to stop after driving away? If you're stationery, might be the power brake booster leaking vacuum? If you've been moving, could be the pads/rotors. If it goes away after a couple stops, might be rust on the rotors. I dunno about anyone else, but I've noticed that after it rains or I wash my car, a thin layer of rust appears on my rotors. Sometimes my brakes squeal because of it, but after a stop or two it goes away...slightly off topic, but does anyone know how to keep that layer of rust from forming on the rotors or should I get them replaced? I've had other cars with disc brakes and I've never noticed this happening before.

I dont think you can prevent that bare metal from getting rust. I've even seen expensive cross-drilled rotors that rust up after a car wash.

thanks....was just curious cause i've seen some rotors do and some don't...guess it's the particular metals used.

my brakes squeek as well but its pretty common with the focus. mine make noise when i just start to drive the car. it only does it for a while and then it stops after its warm. sometimes it happens when the car is already warm which i cant explain but its something im learning to live with.

Mine has done this since day one. I've done my research and there is no problem w/ them, just normal for the foci for somereason. Might be the same way on other Ford cars & trucks being that they might use the same type of pads and rotors. I've had it for over a yr and almost every time I get in it from sitting a while it sqeals for a sec, but normally quits after you use them a bit. Also mine does it after you use them like Fabster said. I do have to say, this is the first Ford I have owned, and it's the first time i've ever experienced any problems w/ brakes. It's not that big of a deal and doesn't bother me at all, but just have noticed Ford brakes are quite different than any other manufacter.

I find that quite odd. We have the same year/model car and my brakes have never squeaked.

My car's a 2003 Zx3.
Mine have been squealing since it started to get cold in the mornings.
After my breaks warm up after a couple of breaks, they don't squeak for the rest of the day even after I go start my car after it's been sitting for 9 hours of the day.
Didn't do squeal at all in the summer.
