Thumbs down Street Racing

I've been around racing all of my life. From my dad & grandfather, who races/ed stockcars, to my brother, who races bandeleros, dirtbikes, etc, to my cousin who's modified cars all of his life & 'street raced'. (After 7 years he just got his liscense back..) I'll be the first to say that I LOVE the adrenaline, excitement, etc of street racing & I'm deffinately guilty x about 73264, lol. BUT recently I've had a few reality checks..

Since February I've lost two friends as a result of careless driving. They were both young like me. (I'm 17.) Looking at a mutilated dead girl who i've known all of my life, in a casket, really had me thinking.. STREET RACING IS STUPID. Why would anyone put not only THEIR lives at risk, but other peoples lives as well? Why did I? Life is so precious & can be taken away from you at ANY second. You'd think when I totaled my first foci, I would have learned right? It's sad that it took 2 lives to get through to me. (& you better believe that I've had THAT urge @ stoplights.. especially when this little honda w/ a neon and shopping cart wing revs @ you like a little RC car.. lol)

ANYWAYS, I was just wondering what everyones thoughts & opinions were on this whole subject.

*This post is not meant to offend ANYBODY & I apologize in advance if it has.

-Ashley

Sorry to hear that

A few of my friends have gotten busted for racing and it's not worth it, especially from what you said.

Well sorry for your losses, and I agree I TRY not to race much but there is just no where around to actually test out my new parts except for the road.

I just roll my eyes at them. I have nothing to prove to those guys. Gets em even more mad, too. Feeling G's and ups and downs are my type of fun anyway (well hello there rally racing).

High-school kids have a lot of growing up to do if they think they're hot shat going straight on cement. Get some experience under your belts, it's that reason alone why I was late for a dentist appointment because I witnessed an accident because of those types of kids thinking.

And yes, I'm 20 years old, but I didn't spend $4k in neon and body kits, I spent it on this: http://www.teamoneil.com/school.rally.htm

i agree with you.

I just want to clear one thing up, the girls that were killed were NOT street racing. (one was killed by a drunk driver & the other was killed by pulling out an early sunny morning infront of a semi-truck)

Sorry about your friends being killed in those accidents, I do know what its like to have that happen and it sucks.

I feel like commenting on the street racing part, but I wont...

im sorry,my deepest regrets....i know exactly how you feel,i have 93 octane for blood and a turbocharger helping my adrenaline levels, but after one of my best friends was killed in a street race i quit indefinatly, there are the definite urges and i still go to the pre-race meets to see the cars and talk but i dont race,i just laugh at the ones who are dumb enough to do it,if you dont have the sense to enjoy life, why be blessed with it,someone could definitly use it better than you

Sorry for the loss. I've lost a friend because of a drunk teenager and it sort of made me decide not to get a motorcycle. RIP - Erik Pfeifer

That said, anybody can drive a straight line! Practice dodging cones in a lot, or take it to the track and get your adrenaline rush there!
