ok so heres the deal... i love the way rear wheel drive cars handle, and i also love the way my focus is set up, but i recently rolled it and luckily the only parts on the car messed up weer the suspension, so inorder to go on with my daily life a make shift job had to do. later the whole suspensino and drive train will be fixed like new, but when it gets redone i would like it to be rear wheel drive. so besides getting a transaxle and transfer case to make it all wheel, is there anywasy to convert it to just rear? if anyone else has done anything like this send one right back cuz ... this would be awesome. i need some know how here

I believe there is a kit for it, however, I think the kit is designed for the v8 focus conversion. Im not gonna tell you that the kit works with the stock engine. It would be interesting to find out though. Personally, and this is just me, if you really want a RWD car, sell the focus and get a used mustang gt.

yea ive seen the one they made for the 500 hp v8 focus, but my main deal was a transverse mounted engine making its way to the rear wheels. and usually im anti ford... i dont like mustangs cuz they r at the bottom of their class, but i just like the feel of the focus and id like to have somthing different. do u know of any machinists or mechanic shops that might be able to work with me ?

If it works out, let us know. Sounds like it would be cool if possible. Maybe a transmission from a ranger or something along those lines would help.

There is a superlite Lotus 7 look alike that uses the SVTF motor. It is mounted north-south, so obviousley they have found a transmission that can be adapted to this configuration. When I saw this in a car mag, I started dreaming about a factory looking rear wheel drive SVTF.

A lot of race cars use zetecs, and one or two make adapters to mate the zetec to a c-4, i'm sure if you could do that you could do a t-5 just as easily. It'd require the engine to be turned sideways, but that's no big deal. The tunnel is already there, you'd have to fab engine mounts and then buy the spindle kit and rear half kit from kugel and a trans, driveshaft, rear axle, and supporting hardware. Considered doing a rwd c4 zetec in project fastiva, but now I'm thinkin the 2.3 pinto motor could go a lot farther.
A rwd conversion will change every bit of the way your car handles. So to think you can just make it rwd and keep the focus characteristics is a bit farfetched. The sways that come with the kits now are far less than adequate for cornering, and to get a solid rear axle to handle right is a lot tougher than it would seem. Pretty easy to make it act right at the strip, but in the twisties our rwd needs a LOT of work

I saw some guy on Ebay who sells Zetec engines who had some kit that he sold which used an adapeter to retrofit a Zetec motor to a Ford T5 tranny... I don't know if he has anything on Ebay or if he still sells there, but it's worth the effort to check and see if he's still there. I wanna do the same thing, lol! Only w/ turbo or a turbo'd PZEV motor.
