anybody have any problems with civics

This may get moved but a friend of mine drives a 97 Honda Civic EX(SOHC VTEC). So far all he has done to the car are removed resonator and blingy muffler and tip. He also usually keeps it full of drum equipment he's a musician in a band. Yet he has killed a 2000 Camaro 3.8 V-6(stick), 2004 VW Jetta 2.0(stick), 2004 Miata and a SVT Contour. Most of these cars fall in the high 15 second range I think. If not a little slower. I basically wanna run him to shut him up but I'm beginning to think it may not be a good idea until I have more to back it up. Basically my car is stock besides a K&N drop in. The guy is a terrible driver during the race with the Camaro he missed 2nd twice. If I get beat by a basically stock Honda Civic, I'm gonna wanna bounce back over to 5.0 land and get my hands on another Mustang. That way I wont have any problems outta any of the rice squad.

wtf.... He missed 2nd twice and beat a v6 camaro? hes lying, the v6 camaro ISNT SLOW, it just is when u comare it to a v8 SS/z28. I can see him maybe beating the svt contour if hes a good driver. When you remove the pea shooter exhaust on the old civics, you get some good gains. Don't be afraid to race him, if for some reason you lose off the line, i garuntee a win from a 45 roll.

I wish he were lying about the Camaro, I was there. The funny thing is I told him not to run the Camaro cause he would most likely get taken. But I'm really thinking about getting a flash just for added insurance.

Well don't know a great deal about civics, but its a 1.6 SOHC and it has the VTEC solenoid. Its a 2 door with a 5speed, sunroof power windows and door locks. So I'm guessing its an EX weren't the non VTEC DX? I know its not a B16 or B18 can tell by looking at the cam cover. So its not like he's packing anything more under the hood.

This might qualify as racing...hmm, but you wont have a prob with any civic, last night I killed a SI off a light. Dude you wont loose to a honda civic man, we can beat every model they produce from the factory I'm talking stock v stock. But if you're worried about loosing buy a tuner real quick dont tell him you got it and BUCK em.

The SOCH engine shouldn't have VTECH, so it sounds like he has a B16A Block mated to a D16B Head with a VTECH conversion, that is a formidable engine if that is indeed what he has. Only about 130flb of TQ. but nearly 180hp, if the exhaust system is anything other than an tip and he has a header you might get your arse handed to you, were talking about a car that has about 10~15 more hp and weighs nearly 500lbs less than yours.

All this talk about the SVTF killing Civics is true sotck Vs. stock, but don't be lulled into thinking Civics are slow, with a few minor modfications they can be very quick, not to mention they ALL weigh signaficantly less than the SVTF, the HF and CF trim models are only about 2100lbs and some of the EG6 frames in the CF trim are under 2000lbs.

Know your opponent and be carefull out there.

Well, anything's possible in racing. But if your buddy's Civic is able to beat those cars consistently, something's fishy. Either the Camaro driver is a one-armed left-handed slushbox owner, or the "EX" has something more than an exhaust and intake. The 3.8L Camaro should be able to beat a Civic -- VTEC or not -- without breaking a sweat. Props to the Civic owner, though. That's impressive driving.
