to beat an s2000...

Ok my Uncle came back this weekend from the strip with a best 14.9 1/4th mile in his s2000. I have a 2.3 PZEV with a CAI and a somewhat cheap 2.25 custom cat-back exhaust. Right now, some elves are making me a focus central race header and downpipe, then I'll get a 2.5" mandrel bent custom exhaust from the downpipe back with a resonator and muffler all on december 25. I also plan on getting the SCT reflash kit and a cam adjustment tool to get my car tuned on a dyno. I am planning on buying an SVT suspension setup and I have SVT wheels and stock tires from a wrecked svt (unfortunate parking garage mishap). I know I will have to work on my launches a lot. We are taking the trip in March so I will hopefully have all of this stuff purchased and isntalled by then. This all exceeds my budget by a bit but I will have the money. What else would I need to beat that s2000?

The reason I do this is because I got a new daily driver and the focus has become my project car.

You don't stand a chance.
With the list you have, lucky if you beat a SVT.
S2000 has a very high end torque, especially around 5000 to 6000 rpm. Those cars are hard to keep up around and their red line is very high.

SVT Modded runs around 15 sec ish but I could be wrong.

remeber that I am running a 2.3 here. They have done a 15.9 stock. Now that was with a professional driver, so I might have trouble doing below a 16 right now myself with my current mods. I believe Egz has done a 15.48ish with only a custom CAI (am I right?) I am asking to take maybe a second and a half off of the quarter mile, which is a lot. Right now my car usually pulls a bit on my friend's svt in the low end and we stay more or less even until we hit some high speeds then he starts to pull. Then on the speed limiter i'm screwed Remeber, my uncle is doing 14.9s in his quarter mile. Whether or not the s2000 can go faster or not I do not know but that was his fastest. I want to beat him, not the s2000. I do not think I ask too much. Also I am excited to have a "project car"

I will let the others reply on this 2.3 issue. I'm not really familiar with that engine. My SVT has no problem pulling away from the new Focus ST and Civic Si.

Those mods should be good for very low 15s or high 14s with good driving. I think the real issue is the 14.9 from the S2000...from what I hear, they're good for mid-low 14s stock with a good driver, which your uncle may not be. Of course, another factor may be where he ran...if the track is high elevation, or has a reputation for crappy traction or something, that could affect times.

With some DR's and spray, you could probably take him...though i'm not sure what a safe shot is on a 2.3, so i'll leave that to someone else. Running at an 1/8th mile track instead of a 1/4 might also stack the odds in your favor.

Good luck!

I beat an s2000 in a street-race. He actually revved at me stopped at a light, late at night, so I'm like--that's cool. Light went green, and I had one of the best launches I've done....a quick chirp of wheels and then nothing but traction. I could hear his engine running what seemed right next to me, but I didn't want to take my eyes off the road....hit second perfectly and by the time I felt it was safe to peek, he was a car length behind. The race stopped at about 50mph, otherwise he might have caught up. I wanted to ask him about his car, but he turned off (don't they all)

is a pre '04 model? I cant remember which magazine ran it (Motor Trend or Car and Driver) but they pulled a high 13 in the 04. But yeah, for the normal driver mid-high 14's is about right

It is not the 04 model. Are they faster? Professional drivers were doing mid-high 14s in the pre-04. It does not feel very fast, but I loved taking it on the turns.
