wheel size combos?

i have posted a topic in wheels thread about wheel brands,
but have come up with a second half to this topic which GEEZER touched on.
centerline vs team dynamics vs rota

for auto-x or road racing what wheel combo works best?
16",17",18" light weight wheels.

of course i understand smaller will have less weght but im sure bigger has some benefits as well.

what is the smallest rim used on an svt?

what size comp tire would be run on 17" and 18"?
(205 or 215 or 225) width, (40 or 45 or 50) sidewall

I just ran a event on Sunday where the stock 205/50/16 would have worked better then the current 205/50/15. Course layout can play a huge roll, in past events courses were 40-50secs, the 15's may have been great, but on this 5-60+ second course, I was topping out a little to early.

I'm looking in to traveling with 2 sizes of tire, so I can adjust to the course. I could be wrong, but I think it can make a noticeable difference.

I subscribe to the smallest diameter, largest width school of thought. Gearing could be a concern on the early zetecs, I think that the SVT's tend to be taller in the gear set, so that shouldn't be a concern.

And its not just wheel weight, its the moment of inertia that will influence your acceleration numbers. With competition tires, I don't think there's any advantage to running an 18inch wheel on the focus. Extra weight and more MOI will negate any precieved cornering ability.

I know SVT people that have removed some material from the front calipers to add clearance for 15" wheels.

Also, in my opinion, the focus needs at least a 225 width tire to start to be competitive, regardless of wheel size.
