First Race - 2nd Place (long story)
1 Attachment(s)
Well, 1,350 miles was enough of a break-in period.
Went to a Solo2 event in Great Falls this weekend.
My little "pocket rocket" pulled a 2nd place finish out of 8 cars in class.
A Scirroco (with 1.8T motor), Contour SVT, 240SX, and I don't remember what else.
The Scirroco bested me by almost 2 seconds.
Results aren't posted on the local club's website yet.
At least I'm looking like Mr Consistent again.
Here's the 4 runs.
1) 54.1XX
2) 54.30X
3) 1:06....(coneage run)
4) 54.00X

The SVT is a perfect match for these little "parking lot" courses.
Too bad I couldn't find 2nd gear the first two runs. [?|]
I have no idea what happened.
The shifter hit the gate, felt right, let the clutch out.....nothing. Waaa Waaa....just free wheeling.
Course, then the next turn came up, and it was back into first anyway.
For the third and fourth runs, I shifted a little sooner, and had no problems.
Well, a cone did get in my way once.
Crowd was all over me for that one. "What in the heck did you back up for?"[ohcrap]
In all my "hastiness" on the course, as soon as I hit it, I backed up to keep it from getting stuck underneath.
Which, didn't work anyway, cause I dragged it the rest the way to the finish.

Anyone else AutoX an SVT, and experience this 2nd gear (or lack thereof) phenomena?
In all instances, it was coming out of a corner, just getting headed straight.
Probably pretty close to the rev-limiter too.
However, I wasn't watching the tach.
I'm getting a pretty good feel for when I need to shift, without having to look at the tach.

I played around with the tire pressures a bit on the stock Conti's (which held up quite well),
and ran my fastest time with 47psi front, and 33psi rear.
What's everyone else running for pressures?

Man! That's about the most fun you can have without taking your pants off!!![eek] [:D]
Here's a good shot the wife took.
Have to bring a better camera next time, so I can adjust the shutter speed,
and actually make it look like I am moving.[:D]

Are these Events all along the east coast? Or who puts them together?

Great picture, sure looks like a good day for racing!
I recently took up Solo 2 racing in my 2002 Red SVT Focus and its a blast.
Last race my focus placed second in class ( to a stock Mini Cooper S) but better than that we both placed above the DodgeSRT4 and the Spec V Nissan and RX8's of the higher class's.
We did not have as nice a day as your picture shows but the times went like this;
57.28- rain
49.563- warmed up
53.004- rain again
Here is a picture of the last run.
Its good to see someone else running the Focus SVT in its proper environment.
Keep us posted of your events.
P.S. Regionals this weekend and I can't wait!

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 05:11 AM.
