: SVT exhaust????
Focistang85 09-28-2006, 12:44 AM I've been debating on what kind of exhaust to put on my 2004 SVT. I want something that is going to have a deep, intimidating sound. Any suggestions out there? I would appreciate any help I get on a decision!!!![clap]
blkthunder 09-28-2006, 12:51 AM c-f-m highflow cat and borla. id get you a sound clip but i dont have a decent sound recorder
superfly092886 09-28-2006, 02:54 AM stealing thread 4 a bit does anybody know how much hp is gained by adding borla exhaust
blkthunder 09-28-2006, 07:42 AM zero... zed... naught... the exhaust on the svt is pretty damn good from the factory. the only time you will see gains from a catback is when you go fi. till then it just makes it sound different. now a highflow cat or orp on the other hand is worth a few ponies.
richiejerzee4lfe 09-28-2006, 09:46 AM orp + borla. i've gotten many complements and i think it's worth every penny. doesn't sound ricey and it has a nice deep tone to it.
Focistang85 09-28-2006, 11:34 AM That's what I was going for is a non-ricey, deep sound. Before this car, I've been a big muscle car fan. I have an 88 mustang (5.0 conv.) and a 72 nova. I love the deep, power sound. None of the motorcycle sound.[;)]

If the piping is bigger then OEM it should yield gains.
Metal 09-28-2006, 04:41 PM c-f-m & borla for sure, it's what I have and I love every second of driving it, I have a sound clip up and have posted it a few times, should be easy to find...there will be a little bit of gains but nothing major...maybe with both pieces you'll pick up 10hp.

Nope.
Not on the SVT if it's still NA.
The SVT exhaust is already larger than the standard models, and throwing something on that's substantially larger will only kill power in the bottom end.

Actually, Tom put 3 " catback on a car, dyno'd it and saw a 10whp gain.
svt2nv04 09-28-2006, 06:59 PM ^^ok but was that throughout the entire power band? i'm guessing that was only at top with maybe a loss in low and mid. and it was NA?
i would ONLY get the RT high flow cat!!

isnt toms car FI so wouldnt he of course gain whp with a 3" exhaust
03OrangeSVT 09-29-2006, 06:18 AM It was on an NA car.. I "believe" it was across most of the power band.

Well I wasn't referring to "substantially larger". I was referring to 2.5" or 2.75" pipe? This will still give the needed back pressure but should yield gains over the small OEM pipe. Anyway I guess the dyno doesn't lie. I am going to dyno my car in its current stock state and apply some bigger pipping, dyno again, and report back. [;)]
funksilver04 09-29-2006, 09:41 AM I know most of you in here are Borla fans, definitely a good product, it is a great sound but, here's one for MBRP... It's one mean sounding exhaust.

What is MBRP? All the slang you guys use around here makes it hard for the newbies.
MBRP is the name brand.... i've heard it on a regular zx3 and it sounded pretty good....
funksilver04 09-29-2006, 10:29 AM Here's their website...MBRP (http://www.mbrp.com/main.php?focus)
There's a couple of sound clips on this focus page...
Focistang85 12-13-2006, 01:38 AM Went with the Borla and lovin' it!!!!

Where does this come from? Who told you that a larger Exh on the SVT would loose low end power?
I have been saying for years that a 3 inch Exh on my SVT before the turbo went on helped a good bit
Tom
SVTF_170 12-13-2006, 09:59 AM Everyone has there own opinions about exhaust as we can see in this thread. Get your SVT's to the dyno people and then we will finally put all these SVT exhaust theories to rest!
Any OEM exhaust is going to be restrictive even if it was designed by the mighty "SVT". Especially one that meets LEV standards. I plan to at least do a ORP and a exhaust 2.5" or bigger.
Tom if your 3" exhaust was so good why don't you post up a dyno sheet so its not just a mystery of how much power you reallly did gain.
[thankyou]
DilSVT 12-13-2006, 12:08 PM MBRP + RT Hi-Flow Cat
Focistang85 12-13-2006, 05:59 PM MBRP sounds ricey
number1187svt 12-13-2006, 11:24 PM Borla and any high-Flow cat. Great Sound, Great Look, Greater Power! I got a few hp out of the Borla. Plus.. you wouldnt believe how many other tuner kids out there drop their jaw when they hear me whine my engine up. Plus when under a load, it just sounds better and better! You can really here the switch of the dual stage intake manifold at 4k, I love it! You cant go wrong!
