im new to having a svt. I just bought the car its a comp orange eap. It has 31000 miles on it and looks like it just rolled off the line. I just have 2 questions if anyone can help me out.
1. when i shift second the shift linkage is pretty loud when it clicks into second. i dont think its a problem but was just wondering if anyone else has it? There is no effects on the performance of the shift, just the noise.
2. i was wondering about this YFRO?? The previous owner said that he had the ecu reflashed or upgraded in 2004, is there another upgrade available after this or did he get the most recent??
Thanks, Chris

Your clunk is normal, it's the engine/transaxle assembly moving too much because the stock mount on the rear is a little soft as a compromise for the sake of smoothness and less vibration at idle. There are readily-available aftermarket replacement mounts that will eliminate the "clunk" issue:

Likewise, an aftermarket tune will probably do you more good than chasing after any Ford tunes for the ECU. I think YRF0 was the most recent update for the 2003 models, but I haven't really kept up to date on that.

I think the cluck he's referring to is the heaviness in the shifter. it can be remedied by removing the shifter counter weight on the trans, but it'll make the shifting very notchy

/\ Exactly. I thought my shifts were really harsh sounding compared to all the other manuals I had seen before. Finally figured out that it was just my counter weight. It's below your airbox and back a little.

for the 20 minutes it takes to take it off, go ahead and remove it, drive it for a few days, and if you don't like it put it back on. it's notchy. I kinda got used to it, didn't like it at first. instead of a "smooth" pull from one gear to the next, it's 2 clicks between gears.

Oh, I didn't even think of the "other" clunk noise. Yeah, it does make a soft "clunk" when moving the shifter. I guess I just got used to it, it doesn't bother me at all - as long as it shifts right I don't really worry too much about what it sounds like.

Every Ford I have ever owned clunked when changing gears.

My SVT always had 2 clicks between gears, just that with the weight removed it's more pronounced. It is definately more notchy with the weight off.
