This is what the Cobalt should have looked like. The back end could look better, but everything else looks great to me. Kind of the same aggressive styling as the new EVO that's coming.

Still dont care about Chevy! Future rival to the Focus? The Focus has been hitting the streets since 1998? Takes them till now to come up with a rival? Sorry guys, i still dont like Chevy and never will. I know some of you still like GM, i just dont care for them. To each his own. Just a little rant there.

when i first saw the rear picture, i immediatly though caliber, not focus....it looks cool, but you know what, i hope it does come out, maybe that will get Ford to pull their heads outta their asses, at aleast in terms of the focus. Ford, its your sport compact car, that has to compete with things like the mazda3, and the high selling honda civic....comeon now.

In a couple of years, the concept is expected to be transformed into a rival for the successful Ford Focus

by then all focuses will have the inline 5 turbo awd 6 spd , beat that chevy!!!

Wow, that thing's pretty ugly. Lose the wing, body kit, and HUGE wheels and it MIGHT look okay.

But I'm not counting on it.

I believe its great to see the Aveo "customized"- Look @ the Honda Fit on the cover of the latest addition of "SUPERSTREET" magazine that car looks mean for a sub-compact!!! This lime-green Aveo shows GM is aware @ what goes on on the import tuner scene & wants to get some of that $$$ & get street credibility in the aftermarket world. ITS SAD to see how EASILY the imports get accepted in the customizing world & how the domestics are "ridiculed" for trying to start a trend or compete.

I have always been a Ford family man- ALL 3 of my personal vehicles are 4rds. The last 4rd purchased was the SVTF & really as of TODAY, 4rd does not have a single vehicle that I would consider purchasing except maybe the Mustang, or maybe the NEW Sporttrack ONLY with the 3-valve V8.
I am NO WAY a GM fan, but I DEFINITELY give them upmost respect for attempting to show their compact has customizing POTENTIAL. Especially when they are making a "SS" version for practically every model the sell (ie the Malibu sedan & Maxx both get their own "SS"). I actually considered the Trailblazer SS AWD sitting in my garage next to my SVTL, replacing the SVTF. I give up waiting for the SVT Adreniln Sporttrack. I WANT PERFORMANCE (HP & Handling) with real world use capability.
I also have a 1995 Ford Ranger (11 years old & owned since it had 00018 miles on the clock),
that I dumped TOO MUCH $$$ to get performance, style & handling that I can get "out of the box" from my SVTL & SVTF. I don't want make the same mistake with another 4rd since I WON'T GET A DIME BACK if I ever sell the Ranger (I learned the hard way years ago when I initially attempted to trade the R for SVTL). Its a great pickup for tooling around & both insurance and gas are easy on the wallet.
That's my opinion....
As educated as the individuals are over in the Ford Offices there in Dearborn, Michigan. They are not facing reality. People will line up for an Audi, Honda, or Toyota and pay the sticker prices for those cars & trucks. Obviously these companies are giving their customers what they want which Ford show be "spying on" to get back onboard!!!!
To be honest, when I travel, I never see Mercury vehicles cruising except in Michigan. I only see them in rental car lots @ the airport.

That lime green Aveo really reminds me of the Renault Clio Sport, now if Chevy only put a 24 valve V6 where the back seat should be like Renault did- it would rock extreme!!

http://www.avtoin.com/zeneva2002/slike/Renault%20%20Clio%20Sport.jpg

We need this car in the states, I don't know if GM made the deal with Renault or not, but I wish they would.. LOL. I take it even with the crappy 60 degree 3.4 DOHC V6 GM uses.

This is a Euro concept people, so just move along...nothing to see here.

I saw this concept up on Autoweek a few days ago. It's ok, but really copying most of the sporting trends in Europe...and notable looking alot like the Honda Civic:

http://www.alpra.com/Zeneva/foto/Honda-civic-type-R.jpg

It has that thick look up front, because of a very high hood line. That's due to Euro pedestrian safety standards. The Chevy also has the highly raked windscreen, and the notchy high rear end. Total copy.

On the other end, they did seem to effectively translate their rotund SUV/truck front end onto a B-car. But, that's like effectively mating Hugh Laurie's face onto Scarlett Johansson's body...it's just weird.

I like it. If Chevy comes out with a "hot hatch" with good power and handeling i'll check it out. If ford wants to fall asleep on the Sport Compact market , thats their problem. I'm not going to drive an inferior car just to be brand loyal. I paid Ford they didn't pay me.

i dont care for chevy either, ok, ford brought out an svt, now all other manufacturers have to try and build something better, dodge with the srt-4, then chevy with the cobalt, i dont even think for builds them to compete, but the other manufacturers do, or thats how i see it

trust me, every company builds to compete in some way, theres no one dominate company. But i must sorta agree with a previous statment, by the time this comes out, especially if ford doesnt get to work on the focus, there might not be a focus anymore....at least stateside. But no matter b/c i will probably never buy one again, at least not as my primary car, secondary maybe, but i will probably not have enough money for that.

I don't think it should have 4 doors. I have never been a big fan of GM. I think ford builds cars that are more solid in general. Plus I doubt that thing will look anywhere near to the concept drawing posted on here. Either way, if chevy comes out with a fast hatch I hope it is enough of a wakeup call to the guy's at Ford that they're being destroyed in the fast compact department. I saw 10 WRX's on the way home from school today. Why do people buy them? Cause they're relatively cheap and you have good power with all wheel drive! I can't tell if Ford is ignoring us or if they're just retarded!
