: Debate time, Max HP

So with all the mods I see to add more power to the focus. I wonderd what is the HP your looking for? I would be happy with 200whp. After a certain point you don't need any more. example of like 800whp is to much and all you would do is burn the tires off just trieing to feather it from a light. but 100whp is just not enough. Don't think of cost or what it would take to get there but just what WHP you would like to have. Some reallistic numbers would be great and for the guy with the 1,000,000WHP post I'm speaking of you when I say this again a realistic WHP for the Focus. Thanks and think about it first.

i'm looking for 220-240 whp with the help of toms stage 1 turbo and some misc motor work..more than just having power, i want my focus to handle like a god. I believe better handling cars are funner to drive.

I'll be happy with about 170-180hp at the wheels N/A. 200 would be mega sweet, but I don't want to give up much torque.

I think 265wnp would be a good number just to be sure i can pull away from the srt 4's

My 170 is ok Im looking towards larger numbers 200-210 If I could afford it I would love to push the car to about 260 or so

agreed... 150-170 is a very nice place to be with 150ish tq moocho fun car to drive. Streetable, still fairly economical and not too hard to acheive. If you want to go fast on top of that, drop a 50 shot on it and you have a great daily driver with a little kick when you need it. My personal goal is to reach 190-200 na and still keep at least 150tq if not more (gonna take a lot of tinkerin) on a motor that can handle 100+shot direct port when i want. Fun quick car, decent mileage that can smoke a 5.0 when needed. :D I don't ask much do i? haha.

another thing you have to take into consideration is how much time/money/effort you can and want to put into your car. 150/140 can be done easy without ever taking off the head, just boltons for less than 3k...after that tho, to get a reliable strong 200whp car you'll need to more than double that amount again. U gots to pay to play.

Of course all my advice is na related and/or nitrous. turbo is another way to go all together.

I would be happy to just have 200 ft lbs of tq, hp is just a number and not as important to me than the initial tq #.

Unfort, for us SVTF owners the aftermarket is slow on the rise with new performance mods. Due to the ECU no doubt, I'm waiting still for set of cams and head to come out. Other than maybe a SC or Turbo, I dont know of any reasonable safe way to maintain what you are looking for. Although Nitrous would be a inexpensive way, I would rather not. Just my opinion on that.

When makeing this post I was hopeing every body would go with the square numbers. Like example 200 WHP with 200Wtq.150hp with 150ftq. I just believed every body would of done this with out getting to technical about it.

ok well in that case i would definitly be satisfied with 200whp/200tq. you could burn the hell outa most things with that.

mill the head, upgrade to 98 octane im sure that will get plenty of HP and wont put wear on engine.

450whp 475ftlb...yea, but i'd also like a dog box tranny and some thick ass half shafts. i think that would make me happy.

well I would like to have 2. A daily driver with about 225hp and tq and then another 500hpand tq.

200 prolly will be enough for an everyday driver but 240ish would be nice :) that is with the torque allmost matching the hp

I wanna have right about 200whp once I "finish." Torque similarly. I agree though, I'm gonna spend more (probably) on my suspension and drivetrain then I am the engine; Going fast is good, but I wanna be able to turn and brake when I want. Focus Touring Sedan, here I come

220 hp @ the crank and about 160ish ft/pounds of torque is what I think I would be happy with. I wouldn't want too much power on my fwd Focus. Whenever I get my SVT paid for engine boltons will be far down on my list. I might get a cheap forced induction kit but only after I get some suspension mods and racing seats.

Who cares about torque? Do you plan on towing a boat? Id go turbo w/ a built bottom end. That yould be a very reliable 250+. And if you wanted to have a second computer and add the boost for race day.

^^^^ no wonder u own a honda! jk

torque matters. do some research. cars with less hp and high torque #s turn better 1/4 mi then cars with high hp and less torque.

Torque is what accelerates your car. Horsepower is "sort of" an indication of how much torque you have over what kind of engine speed. If you have a car with shitloads of torque but a 4000rpm redline, you'll accelerate to 4000rpm and shift, which lowers your torque to the wheels (the transmission is a torque multiplier). A car with less torque but with an 8000rpm redline will allow you to shift at higher speed, therefore having more torque at the wheels during acceleration for that 1 particular gear (after the 4000rpm car's shift point), assuming gearing is identical.

isnt my wording, but thats the answer

also look at the torque #s that a turbo with a built bottom end will make. too many people get caught up in the high revving hp bs. it upsets me sometimes. gearing and a good torque band can make a car a lot faster than a chunk of peaky hp

I'd be happy with 180whp, and around 170wtq. 200whp would be nice but finding a way to keep it street friendly would be hard.

I'd be happy with 140 whp and 135 wtq.

I just like making all of the focus drivers upset when I say trq means nothing because a focus usually makes more trq than a honda w/ similar mods. Trq is good and all but when the 3rd gear in a 1/4 takes hold hp is what you want. I can hang with a Twin turbo 300Z till 60 (mainly due to his wheel spin) but once third grabs I see some beutiful taillights. Its not so much hhis trq that does that.
