: Wanted to get a '07

but now i'm not sure. i'm a very proud owner of a 2003 zx5 and recently decided to put mine up for sale before these vermont winters start to turn it into a total piece of shit. the sticker price on my car was just below 16k and it came with eeeeeeeverything. cruise control, fog lights, moonroof, keyless entry, you name it this car has it.
i know it's still early in the model year, but my local ford dealer has gotten the crappiest focuses in. for 17k they come with cheapass wheel covers, NO tachometer (who in their right mind would drive manual without a tach?...), and AC (i'll be honest, we don't need AC in vermont). hardly impressive. it's becoming harder for me to justify buying another focus when i'll be forced to get the SES model just so i can have the features i paid thousands less for just 3 years ago.
ford has some wicked incentives going on in my area right now ($2500 cash back) and i'd really like to take advantage of it, but i have no love for anything they have on the lot. please, someone with a new focus instill some passion in me. i can't see myself owning a different kind of vehicle so i'm trying to make sparks fly again with this one.

No love for the new Focus here, either, man. The local dealership keeps bringing them in and adding special packages on them to try and get people to buy them. Two hatchbacks have been given special treatment, both Auto ZX3's. By "special treatment" I mean both on 18's and one with the Roush body, spoilers, exhaust tip, and vinyls. And yes, they're autos. Seems like they want 20-something for the Roush one, another high price for the other. All the others are crapola like the ones you mentioned. I wonder why they've all been on the lot for month after month after month...

Why not order one set up the way you want it? Ford says it will take 6-8 weeks but that is just the company line. It never takes that long unless there's a problem at the plant or the car sits at a shippers transit point.
I placed an order for my car on July 11th. The assembly was scheduled for July 30th thru Aug 7th and when I called Ford on Friday, they said it will be AT THE DEALER between Aug 14th-21st. That's about a month total. Not that bad! [thumb]

y'know i had thought about that too. but our regional incentives only apply to in-stock vehicles. so by the time my ride showed up, the deals wouldn't be going on anymore. or new ones will have started. i'm still entertaining the idea though.

If you know someone who works for Ford you can get the X-plan price. The price difference is not very dramatic when it comes to the Focus as compared to other Ford vehicles, but it is a nice price.
There's a few Ford employees here on the site, maybe one of them will be kind enough to contact you and give you the PIN you need.
And yes, it seems like the only way to get a good Focus is to order one. I had to order mine because nobody in their right mind would order a wagon with a sunroof and standard trans.

Ford is offering $2500 nationally thru 10/02, on top of any dealer incentives, so you could order your car now and most likely get it while the $2500 is still offered...

i hadn't even noticed the offers are good until october! sweet deal. my dad works for ford (which is why i went with the focus in the first place) so his employee deal will knock a couple dollars off. i was just hoping to avoid the waiting period after ordering one, but i guess that's no different than waiting for the dealer to get what i'm looking for. thanks guys!

"If you know someone who works for Ford you can get the X-plan price."
Depends where you are located I suspect, but at the dealer's I checked when I bought my 2005 last May, before the employee pricing promotion, the X-plan price was higher than the one I could negotiate with the dealer. I had an X-plan code, but never used it as it would have cost me more.
OTOH, if you don't like negotiating, the X-plan gets you pretty close to the best price, with no need for the bother of negotiation.

I just bought my Aqua Blue ZX3 and I love it. I did get the X Plan priceing and with the 2500 rebate it was about 12k. I got 2k for my trade so I was about 10k and change plus tax and license.
Mine is an SE version without the tach and and a manual. I do miss the tach, so I will be adding one. The SE come equiped with AC, sport interior, and that great center arm rest!
So, for about 11.5k out the door, I feel I got a great deal. It drives great! Handling is quite good for a econo compact and the power is decent as well.
You can't touch any other car for that kind of money really. Even a Kia Rio with those options are 15k let alone a Honda, Toyota etc. The Civic is upwards of 17k, the Dodge Caliber is more. The only car that came close (14k) was the Toyota Corolla CE and it wasn't nearly as nice or sporty as the Focus.
I like the hatch. It has great room in it really. I took 3 buddies in it for a 60 mile one way trip (one is 6' 6" and the other 2 about 5' 10") I am 6'1" and we all were quite comfortable (ok the 6'6" guys was a bit cramped in the front but not bad he said). Had plenty of power for being so loaded.
My only complaints in the week I have had it is it has the noisiest blinker I have ever heard, it has some of the loudest tires around, and I could use about an inch more on the length of the bottom seat cushion to be super comfortable.
I think the fit and finish is very good. As good as just about any other car.
Edmunds rates this their number 2 pick behind the new Civic for compacts and Consumer Reports rates it a best buy.
I ponied up the cash for the 6yr/100k bumper to bumper from Ford. I got a deal, so why not. I am using this car as a commuter while I rebuild my '94 Mustang GT.
My plans for mods are springs, the tach and wheels. Thats it for now. I am happy as a clam with the power and my 35mpg on the first tank.
There are other cool cars out there, but I think the ZX3 Focus is the best for the cashola, hands down.
