When is the first chance we will have a diesel option? With the low sulfur diesel fuel now nationwide in all pumps, it is time to bring on the clean diesel option. This will be the single biggest improvement to the Ford Focus, second to none. MPG will range around 45 city to 55 hwy. I know for a fact that it will be an option on the 2010 newly designed Focus. The real question is will it be an option on the 2008 Focus?
I would say not before 2008 calendar year, but it is very hard to tell.
Ford is developing almost brand new engines for US because of the Emissions requirements. They use EU Diesel blocks, but are making completely new heads. Their engines, when they come out will be far superior to anything else out there, because they are the first automaker to take a full aproach to develop diesels purposefully for US emissions - VW, and DCX will be using tricks and restrictions to their engines to barely climb under the limits.
the pogram s very ambitions, and very cutting edge, but Ford is very sexcretive of the progress - no one knows the ETA... and no one has leaked it yet....
So Diesel is coming, but no one knows when...
