Hi people, im about ready to buy and svt focus for 11,000. im just wondering if a stock svt can beat a audi tt? this may sound dumb but my brother has recently got an audi tt and im dieing to get a car that will smoke him. if the svt cant beat him, what kind of aftermarket parts will i neeed to hang with him? thanks!

what engine does the tt have. i beleive they have a few different options on those.

if you supercharged the svt you could take it no problem!!!

I believe the tt with the 1.8 t is ridiculously slow where the tt coupe with the 3.2 is a beast (somewhat). Usually, the 1.8 t is quick as in the A4 but not in the case of the tt. You might be able to do it stock, but with bolt ons and a tune, you should be able to do it for sure.

i belive his car is a 5 speed manual with 180hp turbo... its the 2003 model... its pretty god damn quick!

2003 Audi TT 1.8 Quattro 7.3 15.7
2000 Audi TT Quattro Roadster 6.2 14.7
focust svt 15.8 is the slowest i've read

The TT has three engine choices 180 hp 1.8T, 220 hp 1.8T and the 3.2. I would think the 180hp wouldn't be a problem, since it's heavier. And if it's got quattro, it's even slower.

well the big 3 and a tune will get you far with an SVT:
CAI (i wouldn't go with a shorty personally)
header (the nice 4-2-1 racing header)
exhaust (Borla cat-back)

throw in a professional dyno tune and you should be good to go!

don't bother with the header if you get the svt it doesn't get much better than the svt's

i have a 05 focus with no mods, and is the base S model.... do you guys think i should trade it in for a 2003 svt? i dont know if this is a good or bad idea

no...

spend the money on the duratec turbo, and really kill the audi.

i thought about switching to, and the svt has alot of better stuff, but it didnt seem worth it to me

Well actually this depends. First of, what tranny do you have manual or auto, if its an auto you wont be able to do much so i would get the svt. If its a manual please think of this two, yes you can get a turbo, but most likly the svt you are looking at will cost less then a turbo would, plus you have to get a tune as well and have the turbo installed etc etc. Either way youll beat the TT, as long as it has 180hp, you might not win if it has the 1.8T with 220hp. But yea audi's are heavy, and as long as he doesnt have any mods to it youll win with an svt i think, depending on how well you drive stick. Depends on what kinda condition the svt is in, if it has a warrenty etc etc

I toasted my brother-in-laws A4 ultrasport with a bone stock svt but thats heavier than the TT

You should probably take a decent test drive in an SVT before deciding whether or not you actually want one. Also, pardon me for saying, but financially it doesn't make a lot of sense to get rid of an 05 car to buy an older car... just so you can one-up your brother.

I'm pretty sure that my SVT can beat the pants off of a Audi TT......

^^ lol... I would hope so.

I have raced a 1.8 TT hardtop upto about seventy and can say for sure that you can beat them. I am not running FI, but I do have a few mods.

I would start pulling ahead and then he would hit boost and zoom up a little to catch up, then fall behind again. He finally got pissed and did the turn off, lol. Poor yuppie.

I agree with the gang though, test drive it and see for yourself. But I tell you this...you can easily get that thing to give your bro a good run.

yeah but im not really the type to put aftermarket parts on a car... i just want a semi-fast fun car.... i thought the svt would fit the bill

Stock SVT vs Stock TT 225 w/ 6spd quattro, i removed my back seats and my car was faster by a hair.

The audi TT weighs 3200 lbs our cars weigh 2750 w/ full interior. So i was weighin about 500 lbs less.

When he installed a manual boost controller, then later a chip, game over. His car has just but loads of tq. and hp to back up the 3200lbs.

Now if your talking about a TT non quattro with the 180 hp then yes you will take it. You would also take the TT quattro 180 hp, since they are both heavy dogs.

Well I smoked a A4 2.8 Quattro in my 2.3 focus. I know they are similar in weight and also horsepower so I'm pretty sure an SVT would not have much trouble pulling on a TT...even the one with the bigger motor. Audi's are built like tanks and they do not do much to weight strip the TT..even the air vents are solid steel...it is a sweeta$$ car though!

and that is why the new tt is made of all aluminum and spaceframe technology. The 3.2 liter quattro will way 3100 lbs and the 2.0t will weight 2900. Pretty sweet.
