What do you mean whatever happened to it? It was a one-off show car designed to showcase the "Cammer" engine and the availability of the conversion kits through FRPP - if you want one you'll have to make your own.

Actually there was an article on here about a week or two ago that had some higher up from Ford saying that they have put to much money into it to just scrap it. I'm not sure if it was just the RS or the RS8 though.

I thought that Ford was actually thinking about putting it into production.

Where on Earth did you hear that?

Ford spent an estimated $104,960 to build and tweak the RS8 (at the time of press for a Motor Trend article that was published in Aug 2004). The same MT article estimated that to build one yourself would cost about $65,737. Even if Ford put it into production it would cost an arm and a leg, and there's 100 other valid reasons why a vehicle like that would never make production. It's a show car, and the best you can hope for is Ford won't have it crushed into a cube and recycled (most show cars are destroyed); perhaps someday then you can see it in a museum somewhere.

....Or the Lightning Bolt. I would've taken a loan out for 10 years if I had to in order to get that truck. I think the Lightning Bolt and that RS8 would be two vehicles that I could be happy with forever.

are you refering to the SOHC 427 they built, I think 20 years
ago for racing but it made way too much power
and you can get the 5.0 cammer motor it's only 14,999$$$

or like the falcons in australia that would eat our mustangs easy

Theres a bunch of other threads on this. I will have this someday, when I'm old and got that mid-life crisis going on. But screw a Corvette or Porsche, rather build one of these up. You can get the rebuilt engines for like $3,000 and get a good warranty on the engine to.

^^^^ yeah, how awesome of a project car would that be!...
that's what i would love to do.. but my baby is my daily, so that ain't happenin'
besides with an RS8 can you say SLEEPER!!!!!
i mean dang, you could probably put a mustang to shame with one of those....
just add Nitrous and your good to go......
or an FI sytem....

that'd be a sweet ride man.

and if you want a 4 cylinder, just disconnect 4 cylinders and the other 4 will be able to pull the weight of Focus...[:D]

Don't actually disconnect the spark plug wires...it's bad. [?|]

well if you had the right engine management system you could switch between 4 and 8 cylinders at will.
then you could have the best of both worlds.
