: new civic si is too nice
jdsidekick 04-18-2006, 02:34 PM ive loved my focus ever since i bought it but wow has anyone had a chance to drive a new si? the torque and sound of the vetec is crazy....my girl has a white one and im tryin to build up my motor to be able to take her starting with throttle body headers cams pullyes until i get all built up close enough to a turbo but anyway those cars are nice haha
babyface 04-18-2006, 02:42 PM Yeah, I driven one. One of my buddies just got a red one. OMFG, that thing is so cool. Fully loaded. And I love taking it into VTEC. Sounds so damn cool. I'll admit, spinning along at 8k rpm, in 2nd gear, is anti-social, but by God, it sounds good. Not happy with the torque, but the overall power is pretty good. My car will beat it off the line, but I can't match it in the top of the powerband.
Tacos 04-18-2006, 07:01 PM I am inclined to hate them but they do look nice. i need to go test drive one.
sleepyboy 04-18-2006, 07:17 PM they are even better w/ the 2.4 liter block swap from the acura TSX. In fact Sport compact car did a project on it and it was badass.
Yup I like them also....... very nice!! They look 'out of place' as a civic, sorta doesn't make sense but it looks like a 'higher end' car......
svtguy21 04-19-2006, 09:10 AM nice cars great performance but it's still a civic just alike the svt is still a focus (not trying to be a hater!!!
Carrera26 04-19-2006, 10:37 AM I'll probably never buy another FWD "Sport Compact" again, but that would be very very high on the list of cars I would consider... at least if there were 2-3 year old examples ready when I went to buy. Not worth the money new.
HaveBlue83 04-19-2006, 11:01 AM I think they are kinda Fugle....I am not feelin' the a pillar, how it dips lower than the hood a little.....that and it liiks boxy, too big to be a civic.......

i dont know why but i really dont like rwd...fwd just seems a lot more comfortable for me
burninbright 04-19-2006, 04:28 PM they are pretty nice...i would still rather own a later model honda than the new one...that's only if i HAD to own a honda...just my opinion...
Dussin 04-19-2006, 08:39 PM I raced one the other day and had him off the line, but he took me when I got to 3rd gear. By the way I could barely hear it when it passed me, I don't know what you mean by the VTEC sounding so mean. I bet if he put a nice exhuast on it, it would sound really nice.
Fl3tCh 04-19-2006, 08:49 PM they are very quick, are you sure it was an si? and if you had him off the line then he wasnt using LSD i guess [:P]
but they have a high price mark up
i saw one yesturday at a local dealer for 28k (went with my friend for his first 5k checkup)
lol it had the HFP package (bodykit) and tint.. it was black and looked really nice..but i would rather have a sti or r32.
i raced one and he beat me by like 3 cars

I like both the New-new ones and the just new (Focus-esque lookin) one. Hate to admit it but the Vtec does sound cool. So is revving that high. They are pretty quick...after a little bit. Still don't understand why they can't give those things some torque though if they came up with I-Vtec.
boca202 04-19-2006, 09:12 PM I love my Focus... thats all, if i would like torque and hp's i'll better buy a porshe, it's the looks and the butterflies on your stomach that counts
Sinan 04-20-2006, 03:25 AM did you see the hand brake in Civic? that sh!t is weird...
anyway...I've never been a rice fan, but must admit that all of the Civics look/ed good.
burninbright 04-20-2006, 04:16 PM vtech does sound nice....
pspringe 04-20-2006, 04:25 PM The hand brake is the only thing I like. It looks erogonomic in the way it moves. That is how your hand wants to move in that position. The new Mustang is the polar opposite.
Sinan 04-20-2006, 10:42 PM I don't know how it moves, i'll take your word for it, but I was saying that it has ugly shape.
Lucidity 04-20-2006, 10:57 PM I still think they are ugly, and just too damn expensive.

yea but the problem with hondas is that you have to choose, do i want good gas milage or do i want to have power, b/c you certainly not going to be getting good gas milage if your revving that high trying to get the vtec to kick in and get to your top hp and tq.
ROBSONzts 04-21-2006, 11:48 AM You guys sound like a bunch of [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]! Traders! [slap]
Sell your Foci to someone who will treat it good and go buy a HONDA!
Those things are ugly and its still RICE!
Sinan 04-21-2006, 12:07 PM I agree. My Foc will be with me for at least 5 years...my love...
FRunner 04-21-2006, 12:12 PM Personally I like the new VW GTI better. I've driven both and the GTI felt A LOT nicer than the SI.
fokuzx3 04-21-2006, 12:14 PM id rather have an rsx-s than a civic si..faster even w/out the lsd, better looking, and will only be made for about another year (thats unless they come out w/ the type R)

and the VW GTi is nice, but i really dont like the back end.
and i dont think that the rsx-s is much faster than the new si, it has 4 more hp

If I want Vtec I'd rather get the RSX-S or an S2K (not same price range though). Even if they have close to the same HP the type-s is so much nicer in every way....
Why is this Si so slow? I mean the heavy ass GTi is killing it on the straights and on the track, is it the lack of torque or what [???:)]

probably, the GTI is a bit heavier but it has a substaintial amount of tq.
Civic SI
Horsepower @ rpm (SAE net, Rev 8/04)*: 197 @ 7800
Torque(lb.-ft. @ rpm): 139 @ 6100
Good numbers right, but heres why the GTI is fast even though its 300lbs heavier. For one its got the idiot proff DSG, which combines to clutches that shift faster then any manual can. Also it has much more power especially in the right rpms then the SI does.
GTI
Horsepower: 200hp@ 5100-6000rpm
then comes the big one, the reason the GTI has the upper hand
207lb-ft of tq @ 1800-5000rpm
The turbo gives the GTI great tq especially at low rpms(1800, lol thats like idling....not really but lol)
Anyway 0-60 times of a SI is around 6.7 while the GTI w/dsg has a 0-60 time of 6.3. Also the GTI has a shorter braking distance as well, not much but its got the SI beat by about 5 feet, which does make somewhat a difference b/c thats like a car length.
ROBSONzts 04-22-2006, 04:14 AM I would still take A MKII Euro Focus ST than either one! But, I do like VWs. Some Acuras are nice, but it's still just a HONDA.
Dussin 04-22-2006, 11:37 PM what do people mean, "when the vtech kicks in"? I thought that vtech is just another way of saying that its a variable valvular timing motor.
Carrera26 04-24-2006, 10:30 PM They are talking about the point at which the bigger lobes on the camshaft get engaged, at which point there is a noticeable increase in power.
A Civic SI is not rice, it is a very nice performance vehicle, and I would honestly rather have one of those on track/AutoX course than a GTI, although I would probably rather have the GTI for day-to-day. I don't like turbos on track, and having an LSD is a big bonus. Althogh the DSG would come in handy on track and the DSI motor is supposed to feel very un-turbo...
Saw my first SI on saturday. It was a Showroom Stock racecar at the 1st National IT race, and I was flagging that day. Looked quick to me, although considering the competition on track (CTS-V, RX8, E & F Production racers), it was hard to judge.
Sinan 04-24-2006, 11:21 PM not like being a rice is bad...everyone has a nickname. I had one in high school - sausage, they called me. [:D]
anyway, I have a really cool PSP wallpaper of Honda Civi Si that I have no idea why it's in my device...[:D] I swear...

yeah it still isnt vtecH...it isnt a phone..it s a motor... vtec [;)]
vtec "kicks in" at a certain rpm...usually around 4500 it will increases the valve lift

Carerra,
I strongly recommend a DSG GTI Test Drive!!!
I have driven the new DSG GTI and I must say the torque curve is unbelievably linear, I really had to stretch to remember I was driving a turbo powered car. The super quick shifts in the DSG car on manual mode are mindblowingly smooth and very VERY responsive.
All in all, if the car had a better image / reputation associated with it I would consider it for a daily driver. I am just not a fan of the "please officer give me a ticket" look (haha, I say that and I'm an SVT owner. I know, it's not really that different but oh well. [thumb] )
