Lots of money and work needed to make it AWD.

For the money it's NOT WORTH IT...... you can get into a WAY BETTER CAR for cheaper once you consider all the costs involved including the price of the actual car.

well that is AWD, but it is C1 based - Mazda3/5 / MkII Focus / Volvo C30/C70/S40/V50
C170 (our platform) is capable of AWD I believe, but it was never implemented outside WRC.

the two most common paths for trying is to fit Escape AWD system, or Jaguar X-type AWD system on C170. X-Type is based on the mondeo/contour, which shares many platform components with C170. the Jag system is also better because it maintains some 70/30 FWD/RWD split at all times, compared to the Excape (using Volvo system) that is fully FWD unless slippage is determined.

However as said before you would be looking at a huge amount of money .. buying a cheap subbie is much cheaper, and you nd up with better car.
