Hi fellas, I'm new here. I do drive a ford, but it is a mustang. I was reading some stuff on a different board about SVTF's and it got me thinking hard about possibly switching to a SVTF for my next vehicle. But the only drawback is, is the lack of power(even though its faster then my current vehicle). So I was wondering what SVTF's were running at the local tracks that are equiped with the jackson racing supercharger?

I would definately get an SVTF over a V-6 mustang. A mustang isn't worth getting unless it's a V-8.

Yes, I know this. But the thing is on the other forum, a guy was having a poll between getting a 2003 GT or SVTF, and the majority of the people on the board went with the focus. Probably 95% of the people. I just thought it was amazing how this little car could win that many people over, so something must be done right.

the svtf kick a$$. Not the fastest car on the road but if you add all the good things about this car you will get a winning package and their very well priced.

i haven't seen any at the track yet...or even seen a post on one taken to the track yet, but the car should easily run mid 14's no problem... note i said should...

i have seen turbo tom run a 13.1 at Cordova with his turbo svtf. he dialed a 13.5 and broke out. the most impressive part was he was on the brakes and his quarter speed i think was only 98mph. His car was bad ass!!! he was easily in the mid 12's and his nos was disconnected for that run. the svtf to answer your question can put out some power and will kill a mustang in the handling department. i think it is a no brainer, especially on this web site.

But to answer the ? that this thread was originally made for - If you have the money to get a GT then go for a GT but if you really want a fun car to drive around get the SVTF - One of my friends has a GT and his car is pretty fast. With the Supercharger you should be running high 14's at about 100mph. I think thats the best it can dial in. Give both cars a good test drive. I was suppose to get a GT but decided i can drive the SVTF for a year or so then invest in a cobra instead of a GT.

Saving for a Cobra is a good idea =) and a supercharged SVTF runs good 1/4's with the Vortech you should be in the 13's throw in a quaife and I suspect you might even brake into the 12's

If boobs ran for president they would get my vote.

Superchargers are nice, but you'll get more power from a turbo. Just make sure you do a good job building the engine if you want a lot of power.

One guy did 14 flat with stock boost on JRSC, it was pretty chilly out though, and I think he had some weight reducton. With good launch it should be capable of mid-low 14 though.

If you want a wicked straight line beast go with the mustang. If you want a car that is really fun to drive and very tossable go with the svtf. An svtf should be faster in a straight line than a GT with a vortech supercharger. But you really couldnt hope for a whole lot after that unless you wanna run 100+ octane.

Also svtf is short for SVT Focus.

you shouldnt buy a mustang unless its a cobra period....

LOL, you talk smack about GT and mach 1, and you drive a focus.

Elementa while I seem to be somewhat hypnotized by your sig, you really seem to not like mustangs but not for a good reason. And what you have stated in your last post shows this. The Mach 1 is a very nice car and is in a way a cobra light since you dont get as much power and its the same engine BUT it also cost a lot less to. And GT's are by no means a POS.

I'm new to this site but i think if you want a fast car wait for the 2K5 mustang as it is about a 1000 pounds lighter and just as powerful. I looked at a rousch and a cobra last week and they topped off a 4500#.
Don't get me wrong though about two years ago my brother sold his cobra to buy a Supra because and I quote "I can't make the cobra fast enough" so if you want just plain fast buy a Supra (he has about 32K into a 10s car.)[:D] . If your like me and love ford buy a 2K5 GT.
The only problem is that if you buy a mustang you'll run out of money far before you have a fast car. If you buy a focus you could have a thirteen second car for under 25K, if you plan well of course.

A good rule of thumb for every 100 lb loss count on a 1/10th S gain for every 100 hp 1s gain. not totally accurate but a start.

There are stock bodied cobras, in the 9's are you crazy? A supra, he has $ 32k in mods to run 10's, guess what, a cobra can run 10's with less than half that.

Your second comment is more absurd then the first, I have been modding cars for a long time and to hear someone say that makes me think you have no idea about anything.

The Supra may be easier to modify than a Mustang GT but I'm a skeptic. They're both very easy to make fast if you're not happy with their stock speed. Mustangs are fast in stock form IMO. I'd imagine Mustang parts are very a lot easier to get than Supra parts.

Its way easier to get a Mustang to go fast my brothers friend has a Mustang GT that runs low 12's without FI

did he use N2O because thats still more expensive than my brothers upgrades to his 10.92 sec Supra. and thats just stock twins

cam gears, down pipe, cat back, AFC, boost controller, stock engine and alot of tuning made a 10 sec car a turbo upgrade made a 10.2 second car with a missed fifth gear. I'll get back to you in a couple of weeks as to how faar he's gotten with less than 33K in total investments. I'm betting he'll break into the 9's. I have yet to see a STREET LEGAL mustang do that.

this is all with fully indapendant rear suspension and no weight reductions. I have yet to see anyone beat him in a mustang or get closer than four car lengths behind for that matter.

BTW even with M/T et streets the car won't lock up till 4th in all previous gears it fishtails.

And yes a mustang can be fast w/o FI but thats because it has a higher compression ratio. but not faster than 11.0. there is a 5.0 here that has 1500 HP in a turbo app but its not able to be run on the street. with the right amount of money you can do anything I'm just saying that a Supra is capable of more for less otherwise they wouldn't be so popular.Dispite this I would still rather have a 2K5 GT Mustang

the mustang I looked at two weeks ago had a GVW of 4550 (Rousch and cobra) the I saw a website that said the 2K5 GT was 3500 w/V8 (curb)

Is curb weight the same as GVW it is on my foci but don't know on the mustang?

GVW = Gross Vehicle Weight. Look at the specifications of any vehicle at edmunds.com. You'll notice the GVW is displayed as well as the curb weight. The curb weight is the weight of the vehicle. I believe the gross vehicle weight is the curb weight of the vehicle with 1 driver and 3 passengers.

Not to change the original subject...and my last comment on the matter...

I didn't mean spacifically compression ratio.

The post I was referring to seemed to be saying that because the car was N/A it was superior to a turbo car because the boosted car has to have boost. The differnce in stock N/A cars and stock boosted cars is the compression ratio. All that to say as far as stock is concerned they are equal. So if your trying to say that a Mustang is better because it can make more HP without boost I think it is a catagory mistake. However, the person might have been showing how strong the Mustang was without the aditional cost of boost in wich case I agree.

I was trying to answer his question. I am a firm believer that there are faster cars out there. After reading up on the newer stang I say go that way at least a GT and possibly a Cobra they've come a long way since 96 the 32v 4.6 supercharged would be my choice if I had the money. However, futile it may be seeing that he posted so long ago.

BTW: I got my @$$ Handed to me by a V8 4.6 Mustang GT 5sp custom exhaust (removed cats) and a CAI. He beat me by 6-7 cars. I need mods.
