: SVTF can take.....
09-18-2003, 10:42 AM
Considering you know how to drive and properly shift when it comes to street racing, what cars can a stock SVT Focus keep up with/take in a 1/4 mile?
I've read some articles that say most Jetta's, Honda SI, RSX type-s, Mini cooper-s, Lancer's all get beat by SVTF's? Is this True?
Jetta's - driver's
Honda SI - driver's
RSX type-s - driver's race,
Mini cooper-s - driver's
Lancer's (cheap one) -yes
Lancer's (EVO) - [hah] ...NO

Yea you wouldn't be able to keep up with the Lancer EVO, that has 270 H.P. turbocharged, 0-60 in around 5.8 seconds. You could try but you would embarass yourself LOL.

I wouldn't race an RSX Type S either unless the driver is your grandma. But the Si you will smoke, I can keep up with them pretty good, they pull away just a little bit on the upshift and I have an ATX.

I know you may be more interested in beating someone at the stoplight, but consider taking your mean machine to the autocross and whooping up instead.
Seeing how the SVT Focus can outmaneuver the Corvette Z06, BMW M3, and Subaru WRX in the 60 ft slalom, you're bound to acquire more bragging rights in the parking lot dodging cones than at the dragstrip.
P.S.--despite poor low-end grunt and 0-60 times, overall, my new SVT Focus puts my traded-in nearly-stock 2001 Mustang GT to SHAME.

Grandma in a 76 LTD...nope...
Man I'm in some kinda goofy mood tonight or what....

Geekspeed is right. This car is a performance machine. A domestic sports car owner might disagree because it isn't very fast in a straight line but that's not what it is made for. Its a cornering machine.
09-21-2003, 10:19 PM
Okay you wont spank a gti 1.8t or vr6 sorry to say cause they are just plain faster (both drivers equal) overall the svt is a better car but the volkswagen rule most stock (and the 1.8t juat get faster and faster for less than most car it is wrong to say they are kills it will always come down to a drivers race.... oh and the mazda speeds are cows they are the same power as the svt but weigh more and have a really bad turbo system that is in the need of an upgrade badly.
But you have to realize what i said before 90 percent of all races depend on the driver, i have spanked a boxster on the highway in a ford explorer, in that same explorer i have beaten older sI's (EK), v6 mustangs, older celicas and a few other cars.
I also have a friend that has owned some cars that theoretically should whoop his @$$, he has a eg civic with a b16 swap, that isnt tuned and doesnt have exhaust or an intake, and he has beaten a jetta 1.8t with a 50 shot, a few integras and some other cars.
Then there are things you really shouldnt try out of just the fact that it isnt bad to lose but it feels extremely bad to get spanked like a red headed step child .... for instance my brothers' friend with a turbo stang got tried by a 4 cylinder accord with a rice body kit ..... needless to say the accord got left about four exits behind him ...... what you have to always realize is if you dont know how to drive and know you car well you will never beat anyone unless they drive as bad as you....... so if you can drive well an svt can take an evo they are two seconds apart on the quarter mile a misssed shift and a bad start would mean death for the evo and they are very hard to launch right.
If something sounds like babble it is that i am very tired at the moment

Oh yeah , it is nice to have a naturally faster car though.
09-21-2003, 10:39 PM
wont beat a 1.8t. i had a passat wagon 1.8t with only catback that walked all over svt's everyday. and thats the heaviest 1.8t there is.

First off...the EVO is more like 5 flat 0-60.
GTI 1.8T depends...my friend has an automatic and I hang with him in my ZX3, he doesn't pass me until about 55 mph.
Driver...it all depends on the driver... I beat my buddy's SE-R Spec V 0-60 because he can't drive at all.
Here's another one I just raced and beat, one you might not encounter all the time: 2002 Mercedes C240 4matic. Those things are incredibly sluggish off the line...however they'll catch you around 75 or 80.
09-28-2003, 12:45 PM
Evo is so quick I wouldnt even know who would think the svt could beat it. That would just be stupid. My friend has one and it ran a 13.1 at the track and I dont think the focus will be able to run that for a while.
09-28-2003, 10:20 PM
I can beat most V6 Camaros and Mustangs off the line, but when you try to go up against a GT or Z28...it just ain't happening. Even when I get beat by V8s and other larger engines, most people I race can't believe the SVT keeps up as much as it does. They're so used to racing Civics and Neons and other stock sport compacts...the look of shock on their face when they race me is priceless...The SVT is a solid, respectable car.
09-29-2003, 11:54 AM
Dude your friend rocks at driving then cause 4 magazine editors who are car guys couldnt launch the evo and when the fifth guy did he ran a 13.2 and a 13.3.
09-29-2003, 08:38 PM
u could beat my buddy's porsche 924s
09-30-2003, 03:31 AM
Definitely don't put too much stock in the magazine articles. Motor Trend tested a blown 351 Saleen right after Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords. MT was somewhere around low 13's best I remember. Realizing that traction was the major limiting factor, MM&FF used slicks and ripped of a 10.50.
All in a car with a warranty, EPA cert. and liscense plates.

i went to ford fun weekend in cordova il a few weeks ago. turbo tom was there. he had dialed a 13.4 and smoked it. when he realized he was gonna run 12's he hit the brakes before the quarter was up. he ended up with a 13.1 on the brakes. with a little help these cars can really move. the saleens were only running in the 12's and there was a s351 there. he was on street tires of course.

Can someone post a link of this video? I'll have to see this.

Sometimes you have to watch watch you read and do it for yourself. I'm and SVT own and I have to deal with a car club of VW's and they talk alot of crap. One of them has a Red 1.8 Golf and had the nerve to go to Ford dealership saying that his Golf can beat any SVT Focus. Funny thing was a friend of mine has a 99 Tiburon with the works and raced the 1.8. The 1.8 got him off the line, but the Tiburon hung with him and smoked that ass.. Just MotorTrend and Car&driver won't tell the truth, Another example SVT Cobra Vs. Corvette. That SVT will smoke that Corvette hands down. Why I say that is beca sales manager at the Ford dealership in my town has a 2003 SVT cobra and has raced 5 Corvettes and 2 ZO6s and has 7 victories and one loss to a 1971 F-100 with a bored out 460 big-block... I raced a GTI golf and he ate my ass that night off the line but when I was just chilling a 50mph he tried to pull on me and I hit 2nd gear and started pulling away from him. Its about the drivers....... and what the car can do. I raced a 2002 Miata and had to let them know that Go-Karts are not in the same class as a SVT....... So Don't Believe The Hype!!!!!!!!!!!

SVTF can take a V6 Lincoln LS. I have no clue about the V8s though.
10-09-2003, 08:54 PM
My SVT Focus got its ass kicked by a Ford festiva. I got him on take off because he was smoking the tires but once he got goin it was over. I thaught the guy was just joking around but was i ever wrong, (it looked like a stock festiva). I bet he got the engine out of a mazda 626 gt, because i thaught about doing the same thing when i had a festiva. I didnt mind loosing to something like that because that was an ultament sleeper. I want one now.

Is it an SVO?
Probably not, everybody knows the svo's were slow pieces of shit!
10-15-2003, 12:56 PM
I know a guy with an SVO. Its not slow but its not stock. I know it has a Garrett T3/T4 & its in good mechanical condition. It runs high 13s at the track.
Sounds like tuning issues, those cars will run high 13's with just a couple simple mods, with a hybrid turbo and stuff to support it it should be running 12's.
