royal purple ... i've ran amsoil and a few other synthetics, and my engine runs quieter and smoother with the purple stuff ... some say it even adds HP, I won't go that far but it does feel like it improves throttle response.

I run Royal Purple in my engine and Pennzoil Synchromesh in my tranny.

I've gone through all sorts of oils in my cars... I found Amsoil to be the best out there.. i use it on all parts of the focus (engine, trans, etc.)

I'll vouch one more for Royal Purple.

Mobil One 5w30. Mobil One is the only oil we run in the engines we build.

Oil won't add horsepower, it'll free up a couple horsepower.

thanks for correcting me, tool ... you are correct, it just allows your engine to reach more of its potential ...

Mobil 1 engine oil, Royal Purple in the Getrag (which is amazing BTW)
some Redline Water Wetter in the coolant.

I like Mobil 1 as few would argue that it is not a great lubricant but also it is widely available anywhere where the RP & Amsoil can at times be hard to find. I tried ordering Amsoil before but they took 30 days and sent the wrong weight so drop that company.

I use mobile one, but I think I'm going to try RP as my engine sounds loud as crap for daily driving... going to see if it quiets it down a bit... but I can say even through I beat the hell out of my car the motor still hasn't blown up so maybe the mobile 1 is doing it's job!

Most likely it was the dealer that sent you the order who messed it up.. since Amsoil doesnt sell anything; Amsoil dealers sell the products, so its not necessarily the company's fault. But I can see where you're coming from.

Another user of Mobil1 5w30 here. Mostly for the better flow during the -30c starts.

does any one no how long does royal purple last in the engine as oil and if any body knows if the engine is quieter with royal or mobil or amsoil and what are there prices per quart?

I use royal purple, and change it 3000 miles.

In my opinion, using a better oil, then leaving it in the motor for longer so it collects even more dirt, defeats the purpose of using better oil.

Royal Purple prices went up in January, it's around 6.99 a quart now. (was 5.79 per qt last year)

Amsoil Full Synthetic is good for up to 1yr/25K miles. though i would never let my oil go that long.

The 3000 mile change interval hasn't really been necessary even for dino oil in years. The quality of motor oil has been consistantly increasing over time, and it will last a lot longer than it would in the 60s or 70s. 5000 miles is perfectly fine with any modern name-brand oil.

Amsoil is severely out of grade by 14K miles/1 yr. It's good for about 10K miles at most.

I posted a link to my reference in one of the other oil threads. To sum up, these folks put Amsoil 5w30 into a V-8 Camaro, and proceeded to do oil analyses ever thousand miles for 1 year, during which time the oil accumulated 14000 miles of use. The net result was that while the oil DID still contain active protectants, and DID do a good job, even at that mileage and time in controlling wear metals, it had thickened out of grade by about mile 11K, and was approximately 45 weight at the end of the year when they drained the oil. By comparison, Mobil 1 was still mostly in grade after it's year and 18K miles, though the Mobil 1 required an oil filter replacement during the year, and benefitted from more make-up oil.

Very suprising, with all the marketing no one is using Pennzoil Platinum. We have that and Mobil 1 at my work and I used Mobil 1 for almost 3 years. Jan I switched to Platinum and WOW! When Id change the Mobil 1 itd be dirty as hell (3k). With the Platinum (used in mine, wifes, moms, and dads) I change the oil at 2500-3000 and its STILL GOLD. Im going over on my wifes car on purpose by 1000 miles on the platinum. I want to see if its any dirtier.

Pennzoil even has a deal where if you get Platinum and you dont like it, they will send you a check for your next oil change. We have the rebate forms at work, so I dont know how it goes for you do-it-yourselfers...

A lot of you guys using Mobil 1 are using it for the same reason as 99% of the others...brand loyalty.

I also run RP Synchromesh in my Trans.

I actually have a somewhat convoluted method of choosing oil. I won't buy Mobil 1 because they are part and parcel of Exxon, against whom I still hold a grudge over their behavoir in the Exxon-Valdez incident. I won't buy Castrol products because I hold them responsible for the Grp III/Grp IV synthetic oil fiasco (if you don't know what this is, don't ask - it's waaaay geek). I won't buy Pennzoil or Quaker State because they're owned by Royal Dutch Shell; I won't buy that for two reasons - one, a couple of years ago, they shut down a California refinery saying it "wasn't profitable" - please. Two, they are hand-in-glove with Ferrari, whom I hate (F1 reasons). I'm not interested in extended drain intervals, so I won't really spend the money on boutique oils like RL, RP, Motul, Amsoil, etc.

This leaves me with the products produced by Chevron, Havoline, Texaco, and Valvoline. Of these, I've always had excellent results from both Chevron and Havoline in their synthetic and dino forms. For oil change intervals of 3000-5000 miles, I don't think you can find a finer oil than Havoline Synthetic - though it doesn't have the marketing glitz of many other oils. For the 5K mile oil change recommended by Ford for the SVT, I'd have no problem running any of the above named four oils in dino or synthetic.

I forgot about the Shell/ Pennzoil/ Ferrari thing - in that case, Im REALLY for them! I am a Ferrari aficianado!

..and and hating Ferrari for Formula 1 reasons, puh-leeze, dont be bitter becuase no one can beat Michael. [;)]

True but not. It's not that the oil brakes down in 3k miles, it the fact that all the shit the oil collects, you don't want in thier. For you're avg soccer mom mini van, 5k is fine if you want it to last. But for a performance vehical, HA HA HA! And as far as the 15k, 25k oils out thier. You're stupid if you don't change you oil for 15-25k miles. I know of no oil filter that can work effantly for that long!

BTW, 5w20 mobile 1 full synthetic ever 3k miles. As per recomendations from Vortech to keep it's warrenty.

That Mobil1 max life - I dont care if the thing says 15,000 miles on it. Id NEVER let my oil stay in there that long. Thats asking for trouble. Not only does oil get dirty it gets used.

Think of it this way....put a little oil dab on the tip of your index finger, then rub it around with your thumb. After a while, the oil isnt really there anymore. Thats happening inside your motor, just a lot faster. So, you can use that max life crap, and then what, just top off every so often? After a while, your just adding clean oil to fill a void. No. Just change it at 3k - I dont trust a $6 bottle telling me "Nooooo, your $4000 engine will be fiiiiiine..."

Penn. Platinum every 3k (or 2500).

Well Mike, you are running FI on a car that wasn't designed for it. In a case like that some prudence is justified. Still, I'd suggest you have a UOA performed next time you do an oil change - you can learn a ton about what's going on in your engine by doing that, and it's not that expensive in the grand scheme of things.

Castrol Syntec 5w30 or Mobil 1 0w20 (thinner the oil the less parasitic drag) you really wont feel or even notice hp gains from oil.
