Well we barely are getting MkV Golf to the US, but it has been out in Europe since 2004 ...
Now there are pictures up of, what is rumored to be the next gen Golf..

But Wait! We’ve Barely Made Friends with Our Fast! First Images of New Golf

The Germans that Blog About Cars have a pic up of what’s purported to be the next Golf, as well as some info about powertrain and configuration options. It’ll allegedly feature a 150hp Twincharger 1.4 mill, as well as a 170hp model and a common-rail diesel or two. But the biggest thing is that apparently, the next Golf will only be available as a two-door. Oh, and that the beefiest model will feature a 276hp VR6 as seen in the current Passat.

VW Golf: First pics of the next generation!
We found the first pictures of the next generation VW Golf, the VW Golf VI, and we must admit, we like it!
It's not going to be a lot bigger or heavier, but it will get a totally new design following the new design language of VW.
And for the very first VW will not bring a 4-door Golf!
Talking about engines:
There will be a 1.4 liter 150 bhp twincharger (turbo plus compressor) in addition to the already known 170 bhp model.
Also VW is doing the switch to common rail diesels with a range of 100 to 170 bhp.
Top model will be a 3.6 liter VR6 FSI with 280 bhp known from the VW Passat and the VW Touareg.
The VW Golf VI will arrive in 2008.

whynotthinkwhynot 03-01-2006, 07:00 PM 170 hp diesel in an economy hatch WOOO HOOOOOOO [clap]
It's too bad I hate modern Volkswagens, when are you going to give us some news about Ford coming out with a 4 cyl turbo diesel in a small truck, or cargo mini-van?
DrkKnight614 03-01-2006, 07:05 PM i think it looks good, but 280hp vr6....um so they are going to have a golf that is faster then the GTI......that doesnt make sense.
^^It does .. the past gen had a Vr6 as well as one step up from GTI.. then another step up was the R32..
Plus this is NEXT gen Golf... I.e. new GTI will ocme with it.
Igor
KahunaB14 03-01-2006, 09:55 PM I would love a small 4 cyl. turbo deisel in a truck...why don't the companies think like us whynotthinkwhynot? It would tow like a V8 and get gas mileage of a Honda!!
Kneel 03-01-2006, 11:03 PM I'm down with it, except for the headlights. The new headlights on all VWs are pure ugliness.
eurofocer 03-02-2006, 04:06 PM I am leaning toward some Photochop action here! Front end of a Eos with the rear of a current Golf. Just look at the tire size difference!
I have heared rumors of the current Jetta getting a face lift using the Eos front end. Will see what happens.
Either way, VW is making a nice rebound with the newest line up of vehicles.
besthaticouldo 03-02-2006, 10:58 PM yea that is what the guy told me at the VW dealership in san diego. there will be a GTI vr6 in 2008. and it will be "the quickest car VW has built to date" and i mentioned the r32 and he said quicker. according to this fella it will have 4-motion and a 6spd tranny. and they are making a drivers edition, for those of you who dont know what drivers edition means, its a rarity in VW they come with a special color and and a special shift knob, upgraded suspension, nicer wheels, and other stuff. i have a buddy with a mkIII gti vr6 drivers edition. and ive never ever seen a car with his color. ill get some pictures with his and my car when i get mine back.
however they are making the r34. which is the big brother to the r32. and that is supposed to be a beast.
OK More stuff.. learned..
this piture and story was originally published by German auto mag Auto Motor und Sport. a very respectable and reliable source for pre-release information.
The picture is almost positively a chop (AMuS have been known for publishing artists' impressions (quite reliable though) of the umpcoming cars before official pics get released).
So the pic is a chop, but the infor is a quite reliable rumor. There is a new gen of Golf coming out in a year... and it will have those engines.
It blows my mind.. VW seems to be doing bunch of stupid moves lately - such as delaying Jetta redesign for so long that it came out apparently only 2 years before the platform's death.. or delaying the import og Golfs to the US for so long they are soming only one year before the redesign...
BTW when Europeans say 2008, they mean sales starting in October - December of 2007.. not June etc as it is here in the US.

eurofocer 03-03-2006, 08:20 AM I have never heard of the R34. Any information on it? I have only heard of the impending R36.

u mean R32? R32 is a zippy little 6 speed (?), AWD, with a rear differential from what i was told that unfortunately leaves no room for a spare tire. So if you get a flat on the road your either getting a tow or riding on a 300 dollar 18 inch rim..lol either way, a big price to pay for a measly flat tire.
all in all, ive seen one in action, beautiful cars!! Ive always liked VW's, i do agree that the new styling leaves a little to be desired, but still all in all, VW are kickass rides.
fat pat 03-03-2006, 10:13 AM r34 is gonna be the new r32, bigger displacement vr6. the r32/4 hass a shitty haldex fwd biased awd, amaazzzzinnggg seats, and one of the best engine/exhaust noises ever to come out of a car under 80k

Where are you getting this information from?! I work for VW and know nothing of an R34. I know of the R32 US model and a new, EURO only new bodystyle R32. Then there is the R36 coming out hopefully by '07 using the new 280hp 3.6L V6 in current production Passat's. But there has been no mention of an R34 model that I have seen or heard. Let me know your source of info!
fat pat 03-03-2006, 04:02 PM mightve been thinking of the new r32...i thought i heard they upped the displacement in the mkV?
whoops about the motor size, all the other stuff is true

In the states?
Never going to happen.
To my same dissapointment I must add.
It does exist:

Mr-914 03-29-2006, 12:00 PM Igor: thanks for the autoweek post, it adds some much needed background to the rumour.
I think this render looks to be an improvement on the current model. The chrome grille that VW has been kicking around is poorly integrated, but this image shows something more advanced. It's interesting to note how the car is getting even more rounded than the current model. That's a big change for German makes used to producing boxes.
I showed the pic to an Argentinian friend, and he thought it seemed small for a Golf. I thought the same thing too. I'm curious if the image might be of a next generation Polo instead.
