: Can Someone please help me with upgrades
svtcobrafocus 02-27-2006, 08:13 PM Im looking to upgrade my svt focus and dont know what to do to it. See I know it has alot of things done to the engine already so i dont wanna screw anything up, anyone have any parts i can buy to make it have more power without screwing up the setup? please reply. Thanks alot.
MTBman1127 02-27-2006, 08:32 PM Steeda, Ford Racing...and alot of other places have parts specifically designed for the SVT and may i suggest getting intake and/or STS first
And welcome to the SVT club and to FF and please upload some pics for us
svtcobrafocus 02-27-2006, 09:08 PM This is a stupid question but what is STS? How about underdrive pully? how much increase that give? or what about msd ignitions or something? your guys help id be appreciated, there is a Borla exhaust system(pricy) for svt focus, is it worth it? how about fidenza aluminum flywheel? I want to hit 200 hp
jr_psychologist 02-28-2006, 01:27 AM The fastest, cheapest way to 200 hp is a Jackson Racing supercharger.
1. STS = Short throw shifter. Wait a few weeks and c-f-m (Central Florida Motorsport) will have a new one available that's likely to be worth waiting for. It's got a better pivot like the Ford Racing/Steeda, and is also height adjustable and you can adjust the knob as well. When you do an STS, replace the rear motor mount at the same time with an aftermarket piece (i.e., VF Engineering, Steeda)
2. Forget the UDP, it's not worth the $$
3. Forget about ignitions, the stock setup is good for 350+ hp. If you want to, upgrade to Ford Racing or FocusSport wires and Motorcraft AZFS22C copper plugs gapped a bit larger than stock. For example, I've got my coppers with the stock coil and FS wires gapped to the same specs aftermarket ignition coils tell you to use with their setup.
4. Until you're at/over 200 whp, don't worry about the exhaust. The only significant restriction is the cat, and there's not a legal way to fix that. If you like, Random Technologies makes the best hi-flo cat and the best off-road pipe. Either would be a worthwhile upgrade
5. If you're doing the flywheel, do the clutch and slave cylinder at the same time. You can get a great clutch/flywheel setup for ~$800 if you look around (parts only, not including installation, of course).
Now, for the questions you didn't know to ask:
Q. Best mods for the money outside of forced induction/nitrous
A. Hi-flo cat/ORP, ECU reflash (Hypnotic Illusions and FocusSport are both great choices using the SCT XCal2), STS/rear mount, intake (AEM cold air, or FocusSport with the stock snorkle)
Q. What about my suspension?
A. Leave it alone until it gets soft. Then, adjustable dampers, lowering springs, and a slightly bigger rear swaybar (the 24mm H&R is a good choice) will get 'er done. Until that point better tires will make you happy.
Q. What about my brakes?
A. Leave them alone until they wear out. Buy new stock parts, replace them. Repeat.
Q. Do I really need to use premium gas?
A. Yes, or you need to give your car back and turn in your man card.
Q. Why is my check engine light on all the time?
A. Remember that ECU reflash I told you to get? Fortunately you heeded my advice and bought an XCal2 that will allow you to read any CEL's that pop up. Likely culprits? You bumped your header on something and busted an O2 sensor (yes, you really do have 2 of them), or your DSI is buggered.
Q. What is that stupid rattle between 1500 and 3500 rpm?
A. Your cat support bracket is cracked. Remember when you bumped your header and busted an O2 sensor? Guess what else happened...
That should more or less cover it. There's definitely more, but that should give you a solid start.
svt2nv04 02-28-2006, 05:36 AM yeah you're not going to get 200 NA whp in an SVT focus with out extensive internal work and lots of money, even 200 crank hp will take more than just boltons. if you really want 200 bad get a supercharger, jackson racing is a good choice, and you can get a big boost kit with it too.
as far as the UDP, i would get one. some people say nay some say yay but it's up to you to decide that one. dyno results prove 2-4 whp according to focusfanatic magazine i think it's the spring 2004 issue.
i agree with the exhaust suggestion unless you want sound. you're not really going to get much of a performance gain until you get forced induction or a lot of mods.
one last thing, you definately NEED to get a flasher. 1turbofocus, (Tom) sells the diablo predator and wayne sells the xcal.
SVTmonkey 02-28-2006, 12:15 PM You say that it has lots of work done to it already, what has been done?
Your mods in order, should be like this:
1. Short Throw Shifter (Steeda) and Rear Engine Mount (VFEngineering).
2. Custom Tune (Hypnotic or Tom)
3. Intake (Short Ram or Cold Air Intake)
Oh, and no matter what some people tell you, DO NOT get the off road pipe. If you wanna touch the exhaust, get the hi-flow cat.
Best advice I can give you is use the search function on this forum and start learning...there is enough reading there to last you months.
Cheers!
LastRites 02-28-2006, 12:25 PM [}:)] I'll throw in my suggested list:
1. Random Technology high flow cat
2. Focus Central throttle body
3. intake, cold air if you can
4. SCT tune (HIA) or Diablo tune (Turbo Tom)
5. Dampers, springs, sways
6. Rotors & pads
7. BOOST!!!

i'm pretty sure he's talking about what's been upgraded from the factory from the base zx3. at least that's how i read it
JSSVT04 02-28-2006, 01:39 PM sorry guys but y a sts? i think that is one of the bigeest waste of money on the market. it really not that much different. for $100+ i would use it on something else.
the biggest thing i noticed was the flywheel and clucth, also a tune when i had the jrsc but other than that i didnt notice to much of a diffence.
good luck and welcome to the greener side of the foci lol jk
svt2nv04 02-28-2006, 01:58 PM ^^^^ have you installed a STS on you SVT before? it makes the shifting easier and shorter plus i think it looks better than having a shifter that looked like came out of a bus.
rfinger 02-28-2006, 02:10 PM I love my sts
1. Hypnotic Tune
2. Steeda STS
3. AEM CAI
4. FC ORP (If you dont have to worry about emissions if you do get a R/T High Flow Cat)
5. FC TB
6. VF Rear Mount
7. BOOST of some kind
JSSVT04 02-28-2006, 02:10 PM i dont have a problem shifting. do you do alot of speed shifting?
and no i never have but i have seen alot of them. still not a big deal to me.
svtcobrafocus 02-28-2006, 02:37 PM Thanks alot, and yes I was talking about upgrades by svt are done, I havent touched the thing....yet. Its hard to choose a good bang for buck, CAI says it adds only 5 hp at the most?
JSSVT04 02-28-2006, 02:42 PM it all depend on how much $$$ is in ur back pocket. and the jrsc was a good one that i found. dont do a turbo kit that to much money. im way over my head, but she almost done now. a week or so i get her back again :) yeah
SVTBoy21 02-28-2006, 10:11 PM Hey svtcobrafocus, you came to the right place!!! I didn't know anything about mods for my SVT Focus either about 3 months ago. Since I joined this site I've learned all kinds of stuff. You better be careful though, since I got the "mod" bug, my wallet has become really empty, lol. But my car is faster than ever and I love it.
BTW: My favorite mod so far is the SCT X-Cal 2 with Waynes' Tune, it was a great performance upgrade and added improved drivability as well. My AEM Cold Air Intake was a great addition too, it sounds really cool and it seems like it added some mid-range power. I have a JRSC--Jackson Racing Supercharger--sitting in my room right now and I am waiting for my BBK--Big Boost Kit--to arrive to install it.
This site is amazing and it will teach you a lot. Just be careful and don't go crazy buying stuff like I have, lol.

no i don't do hardly any speed shifting. my car is a daily driver and i never street race so i don't have a need to do any speed shifting at all.
you don't have to speed shift to feel the wonderful affect of having a short shifter!!!!! if you've never had a STS installed on your SVT then don't say to a noob or anyone not to get one because you have no idea!! especially when 98% of the people have one installed and every one of them love and recommend it to others.
JSSVT04 03-01-2006, 07:46 AM ok im sorry man i dont like them, and i wouldnt think it is a upgrade thats all. im lad you like it.
technyne 03-01-2006, 10:20 AM Simple,
