mk2 focus is an all new car introduced as 2005 in europe and gradually brought to all world markets except for North and South americas.

The reason why people weep that we do not have it is that is much more upscale than the current focus, especially the 2005+ version that gets bitter words all the time.

The car's underpinnings are not THAT different than the US (or Mk1) Focus, but the platform is brand new - a product of co-development of Mazda Ford and Volvo. The new platform is basis for the Mazda3, Mazda5, Volvo S40, V50, and the upcoming C30. a stretched version of the platform is used for the upcoming C70. The platform is ighly acclaimed for stiffness, driving senesation and generally design, but truth is, most of the suspension components were straight up copied from the Mk1 Focus.

Overall, it is simply second generation of the Focus, that is quite imporved in terms of style and quality, and is deemed so attractive because it is a forbidden fruit to us.

I jsut drove my mom's S40 T5 AWD a couple hours ago, and man is that a nice ride. Not as much of the nice "grainy" feedback through the steering, but it tracked and steered with precision and ease, and NICE power.
