ok , i havnt had my svt to long so i dont have much experiance with it , but i was wonder at what rpm should i shift when drag or straighht line racing from a dig....i usually just run it out to like 7300 but its prob not the best shift point....some input please[thumb]

most people redline first gear due to the large difference between first and second gears. after the 1-2 shift, pull your shift point down to about 6700 or so because that's right after your hp peaks on a stock car

however, if you want to be in that band when you're going into the next gear, you want to shift around 7200 instead of working your way up to your peak hp you'll already be there when you shift.

get a tune. I shift at 7600 when racing.

^^^yeah it's still producing horsepower up that high so i shift right before redline, ~7400 rpms

I make peak power at 7500, it red line at 8000. I shift at 7600 when racing

I will usually shift right at 7K rpm.

This is correct - it's not so much picking the best rpm to shift out of one gear, as picking the best rpm to shift into the next gear. If you shift out of (for example) third at redline of 7200, you will go into fourth at 6000. That's good - lots of power at 6k. If you shift out of third at 6700, you will go into fourth at about 5500. That's not so good, as there is a lot less power there than at 6k.

Of course, this discussion is about max performance. For most acceleration, even fast acceleration, there is nothing wrong with shifting from third to fourth at 6700.

My redline is raised to 7600, I shift at 7200 and do quite well with it.

i shift at about 6k. but then again, i also have a stock tune with a 2.0 duratec :) not really relevant here

I shift at ~7,250 RPM.

Depending on the situation, I usually shift at 7000 when i need it, or at 6500 when I know I'm going to win.

you guys got a secondary tach for this 7,600RPM shifting...or are you just going by how many red lines you get the needle to in the red zone.....cause I THINK mine cuts out after the second red line (a round 7,300-7,400 i guess, which normal redline is at 7,300).......

Each red line is 250rpm...

IN a serious race its somewhere between 7000 to almost 8000 <<<<< once by accident depending on the gear I'm in.

Any other time it doesn't make much of a difference cause I'm always making good power.

No. We have an aftermarket tune. In my case Wayne raised my redline to 7600 which is the end of the tach. I never take there. I shift at 7200.

I shift as soon as the red line governor throughs me out of gear;)

Just wait for the little upshift light on the dash to come on. Oh wait, you've got a SVT. Then again I've got a SVT. My last car was an escort GT, it didn't have the shift light either. Oh never, mind, don't pay any attention to me.
