I parked my car head in, and it ended up snowing like 10' last night and today.. and I opened my hood, there is a light layer of snow on my filter. It's heavy enough that I cannot see the filter under the snow on some parts, but it's not completely covered. Being semi-intelligent, I did not start it and I tried pushing the car back to get under the car to clean it, but it won't budge..

now my question is.

Could I start the car and..

drive it and be fine?
pull it back and turn it off in a few seconds and be fine?

I've got a CAI and I've had snow up to above the lower grille, and I think snow's gotten on the filter before, but I couldnt' see. It's always been fine but it's hard to say based on a description?

I mean a little snow really won't matter, if it's packed in a fort of snow then maybe I would be concerned... hard to say.

^^^ True enough, if rain water won't ruin a CAI, maybe a little snow won't hurt either. If a little bit of snow gets in, it should evaporate before it gets to the engine?? Like you said, filter isn't packed with snow, so maybe u'd be ok.

Yeah I mean more than once I've been parked minding my own business and snow gets dumped on us and there's suddenly a bank in front of my car, right against the bumper.

I think once I tried to dig it out a little bit, but that didn't seem to do anything, so every other time I've just brushed off the car, started her up and put it in reverse. It didn't suck up a piece of the snowbank, so I think I'd only worry if there was a lot of snow right against the filter, that it could possible melt on there.

Do you still have the splash shield for melted snow to collect in, or is the filter free, just hanging out?

05 does't have a side splash guard, just the lower. The snow is up to the bumper, and I can see snow littered on the bottom splash guard. Picture will come tomorrow.. I'm stuck at my girlfriend's house until I can get the snow off I guess.

Al, im going to have to say try to get underneath the car somehow, dig out the snow around it, im not sure how the filter attaches but try to take the filter off and then just let the snow melt off it or take a blow dryer to it.

That's what I was trying to do, but I couldn't budge the car.. I'm gonna try tomorrow. It's a simple hose clamp so I can get it off if I can get under the car.

this is another reason "Outerwears" are a good thing. if one of these babies were covering your filter, a simple 'de-robing' of the filter would be necessary. clean the outerwear off, then cover the filter back up. these "Outerwears" or pre-filters as some call it; they only reduce air flow of a maximum of 10%. the oil keeps it water repellant. and it wont allow gobs of moisture to contact the expensive part. the filter. anyone who has a CAI or is considering one, i believe should invest in a pre-filter. they are @20 bucks and depending on your filter model #, it can come in different colors.

I can't find a filter model # or anything.. I got the filter off a steeda SRI that I kept for my FS CAI. I want to get one of those filter wraps but I Can't find one that will fit.
