SVT Robzor 02-09-2006, 01:52 PM Ick, the interior does nothing for me. Flat. I mean, german automotive might be cold an unfeeling, but does it need to look like a Chevy? [;)]
Yeah that was harsh, but you know thats gonna be a pricey piece, I expect a lot.

Have you sat in one yet? The interior is ridiculously nice and I know because my sister has a 2006 GLI. I think you should sit in it instead of judging it by that horrible over saturated photo.
mustanggt_50 02-09-2006, 02:23 PM Thats nice!! I want one![cool] Also I see nothing wrong with the interior of that car!
azdamay 02-09-2006, 02:49 PM I'm interested in the GTI. I like the light retro touches like the plaid upholstery and the red trim around the grille. I looked at the Jetta at the Int'l Auto Show and I thought the interior was nice... I did notice that I seemed horribly out of place in the crowd of yuppies swarming around all the VWs though. But hey, it's San Francisco, I guess I should have expected that. [rolleyes]
When I drove the new GTI I had this horrible humming noise coming from the back of the cabin.... all windowns and the mooroof were all closed.. it was quite unbearable ... just heads up

Oh, I know I'm being an armchair quarterback. I wasn't being terribly serious, just a visual critique. I could further clarify, or perhapse rephrase, or something, but, I dont think I will. I'm sure VW puts out a very nice package; everybody says they do, and everybody's never wrong [;)]
Carrera26 02-09-2006, 03:58 PM Very good, but too expensive for the GTI methinks... That's their market niche in the US now though.
PapoSwing 02-09-2006, 04:05 PM There's two of those GTI's sitting at the dealer, they look Hideous! Everything the front the back, the side uggghhh[xx(] The only thing I like about the GTI (cuz I absolutely despise the rest of VW's car lineup [xx(]) is what's under the shell. Motor, suspension, tuning, mods, interior that I do like [unsure]
HaveBlue83 02-09-2006, 04:25 PM BLAH.......
rfinger 02-09-2006, 04:28 PM eh i dunno
whynotthinkwhynot 02-09-2006, 04:35 PM I stopped liking VW after I discovered the mid 90's EZ crack head issue while working on a friend's 96 Jetta. When you call the dealer about a head gasket.. and the parts guy remarks "Are you sure the head isn't cracked at that mileage (40k)... we have heads here for $900 loaded on the shelf". Then it makes you go hmmmm. It appears that there was a re-design of the original 1.8 head 2 years after production of the new all aluminum design, and the earlier production heads were then sent to Brazil for the North American market where factory warranties could be lowered to a safe level without raising suspicions.
Go getcha some of that high quality German engineering......in a BMW.
superchop 02-09-2006, 04:38 PM I'm still not a huge fan of the rear, but that car is quickly growing on me. Seeing the car in pictures does it no justice...it's the type of thing that you have to see for yourself in person. Unfortunetely though i won't end up buying this new golf anytime soon (hopefully my cousin will sometime soon) but one day when the new MKV R comes out and the price of the MKIV drops...then people might see me driving a MKIV R32 ;)
CrazyMatt 02-09-2006, 04:55 PM *shrugs* Eh.
giantsnyy 02-09-2006, 04:58 PM that site is a bit slow and a bit wrong with their info... i saw a new GTi on the road the other day... my friend who is big in the VW scene said they were released 2 weeks ago...

I believe the Jetta GTI is out, but not the Golf GTI yet. Anyone know different? I could be wrong on this. I don't frequent VW lots much.
giantsnyy 02-09-2006, 05:04 PM the jetta GLI is out... but what i saw was definately a MK5 GTi... I had even followed the guy a bit just to make sure I wasn't seeing things.
MISVTfocus 02-09-2006, 05:05 PM I will never buy a VW ever. My mom had the biggest POS jetta, and consumer reports always give them crappy ratings.
youngkal 02-09-2006, 05:21 PM id trade my focus..my girlfriend and my left nut for a new gti
fwdsvtowner 02-09-2006, 06:09 PM I'll take a GTI in white, with the leather. The plaid cloth does look really bad, although the seat design is excellent (I have RECARO's, so that's saying something!). The stearing wheel is also excellent with molded contours and the flat bottom. It's kinda like my SVT, but with torque and better quality materials. I would have to drive one to be sure, but it could be my next car since Ford is floundering and doesn't seem to have any direction...
Carrera26 02-10-2006, 08:56 AM I own a GTI, and it has been exceptionally reliable and solid. I would have 0 issues about buying abother one, if it fit my situation.
They had a MKV GTI on the dealer lot here more than a month ago, and this is Iowa, so they have definitely been out for a bit.
Every review says that they are absolutely fantastic.
The Tubo in that car is awesome.. the car is either much lighter than the A3, or the drivetrain was reworke,d because the engine feels VERY different from the A3 I drove.
The interior is blan, but very nicelt done...
I would be worried about the reliability, but it seems on and off...
But I am becoming bigger and bigger fan of NA setups though.. at the end of the day I would pick the Si over GTI despite not offering the nice overall package and igh end features like HID's... the engine felt nicer and the car much more nimble.

SVT_BMXer 02-10-2006, 09:48 AM It looks better than the new jetta and passat....but ill take an MKIV please.
