: Do you love your focus enough?

I am wanting to know what measures do you go to to get your car all the stuff you want for it, and what you do to keep it out of harms way?

I recently whent on a 5 day trip to north Alabama, while leaving my car at home it was under a cover which was straped down to prevent movement.

I am now getting a second job so I can spend MORE money on my car ( and I guess my fiance' too), my current job is a 2pm to 10pm shift and I have plenty of time in the morning to work atleast 4-6 hrs.

So is anyone else this nuts about there car or do I need to spend my extra money on shrink? [8]

Sounds like you are a careful car enthusiast to me. I get crap from my friends for having a perfectly good car sitting in the garage while I drive an old beater because "it's raining" or "it might get dented in the parking lot" or "I don't want your grubby hands on it." [:D]

You've got one of those pager alarms? Cool beans Mikey.

Mine knows I love her. I don't drive her much now, but if I did it would be all this start, rush through 10 minutes of city traffic, get there... bad driving. So I walk everywhere, keep her covered and take her out to stretch the legs (tires?) on the highways when I have some time and it's a nice day[:)]

how much did that alarm system cost you? i was thinking if i upgrade my alarm, which i plan to, i want one that will page me to tell me if it is going off or not. if i am going to spend alot of money on my car, i am going to protect it!

Plus what's worse than the car alarm going off and the owner's nowhere in sight... so everyone just listens to it forever[:(!]

yeah, that is another good reason! i think all alarms should have a pager.

I try to keep it clean... not really into modding and I drive it every day snow, rain, or shine. A lot of it's attraction to me was it's ability to do the daily-driver thing and still put a smile on my face. Besides, that way I get to have fun with it every day!

I think paying the insurance, at 21, especially after this accident, possibly qualifies me for legal insanity. I was overjoyed to find a quote for only $1260/6mo.

I love the car, but I ask a lot from it too, I'm putting close to 20k miles/yr on it, through New England winters, in and around the city. I'll be teaching my brother how to drive a stick on it soon, but she'll love that. I reciprocate in the form of detailing, washing, and candy-sweet oil changes though [;)]

"my car goes in storage all winter from december1 to march. my car is my baby. if anyone touchs damages it i WILL LITERALY kill them. i dont play that shit."

My buddy was telling me about a radio stations prank phone call that he heard while living on LI.
Guy had his Porshe stored in his sisters garage. Only driven on sunny Sundays in the summertime. She had the key to the car, with instructions to use it only if the garage was on fire...
He gets a phone call at work (not knowing that he was on the radio) from "Joe's Garage" - they can't get the paint on the new fender to match the paint on the rest of the car, and want permission to paint the whole car for 3 grand (this was 20 years ago). They let him fly for a couple of minutes, then cut him down. To top it off they wished him a "Happy Birthday!" (his sister's "present"). Nice...

Mine sitting out in my parking lot. No cover. It just has a good coating of oil protecting the paint.

I love my Focus, but its just a fun cheap car. Now if it was some limited production, expensive car, things would be different.

I refuse to bring it to college with me, i dont trust these people here. It sits at home, under a roof, with a cover tied down to make sure that it wont move and scratch the paint. Every time i go home for a weekend, it gets washed friday evening, and i spray it with some quick detailing stuff before the cover goes back on sunday morning.

Love my focus?

Oh hell yes.

Oh great, so me getting a second job to pay for my addiction to modding puts me at the same level as focus mike! [8] Does anyone have a number for a good doctor?

Carmen- I have seen your tatoo, looks good!

I used to have one of those cheapo alarm with pager remots from Circuit City. Biggest waste of money EVER! This thing would go off if the wind blew the wrong way, but when my friend would try to play a joke on me and kick the tire or hit to roof it didn't make a noise. Needless to say everytime it whent off I still ran outside to see if it was ok, even if it was at work and even if it was 6 times a day!

I will be investing in a viper this time!

I'm similar as well...although I did this with my Accord too....I go and check on it at least twice before bed...just to make sure it's alright [:)] I have had a system stolen before so I get a little paranoid sometimes....don't think I'll ever get a second job to pay fer mods but I still love my quicksilver.

I don't love my focus enough... I drive it on dirt roads, don't wash it enough, and don't buy it enough parts.

Well let's see...
- zero mods (with none planned)
- the only money I've spent on the car is for gas and maintenance
- hasn't been washed in months (has nice streaks of dirt down the sides and bug splats all over the front end) and with it being black... I just don't even try to keep it clean all the time
- is parked where ever there is an open spot in the yard (it has to fight with 7 other vehicles) or in parking lots (I'm not about to walk a mile just to avoid possible scratches, might would for a more expense car)
- I would never buy a car cover (it would be put on maybe once and then thrown off to the side after that - way too much hassle - and besides, it's a Focus, not a Ferrari, and the rain is about the only way my car gets washed)
- I do however keep the interior clean

I'll admit it. I don't love my Focus and I'm sure as hell not obsessed with it. It's alright but in the end it is my daily driver and just that.

I try to clean my car. When it wasn't all icy out (the garage is up a nice incline, so if I washed my car I'd ahve a hill ice slick into the garage), even in January when it was around 40 degrees I was out there... But every day I drive u pthat damned, pothole covered road and it just covers the car in mud. I wanna do more mods, light performance and exterior, but somehow I'm failing to make the connection between saving up for it (which I've done to excess) and finding the parts...

It's my daily driver, sure, and sure there's a dozen other cars I'd rather have, but it's my car. Just because I'd rather have a faster one doesn't mean I don't love it.

My car is my daily driver. I wash it in a "touchless" carwash at least 1x a week in the summer, and as often as I can in the winter. I keep on top of it's fuel/oil/filters/fluids and tire pressure.
I autcross and drag race it as often as I can, and run it hard at least once a day. I keep good tires on it. I park away from other cars and walk a little farther. It gets a good spring detailing.

My car is my daily driver. Since I pick up my girlfriend to take her to school everyday, I have to drive on some dirt roads, with means the car is covered in mud and and dirt. I prk my car out in the weather, on the apron of our driveway, my dad parks the station wagon in front of the garage door, and the Porsche gets a whole 2-car garage to itself. I do like to go drifting in snow, but I try not to abuse it too much. When I'm at school, I go out and check it between classes, cuz the people at my school don't respect each others cars, thats why I got the alarm. Otherwise, she is treated like any other car.

I would say that I have something of an abusive relationship with my focus. I make sure it receives proper care (between maintenance (oil every 3k), gas, etc.), and drive it within reason. The focus rewards my efforts by being a POS that feels like it's going to fall apart. The tranny's been rebuilt 3x, the brakes 2x (pads and rotors), 3 sets of tires, and such. This week, it left me stranded at the doctor's office when it refused to let me start it - the ignition switch failed. According to the service managers at 3 ford dealers, the focus is the only car that does this and that I was fortunate to get 59k out of my car before it went. The car rattles like a child's plaything, the weather stripping is letting in noise and cold, and now the front end is making scary noises. I bought the car as a certified pre owned from a blue oval certified dealer assuming that it would still be usable as a car when it's paid off. At least it'll make a nice storage shed.

I bought the 02, thinking it would be a safe buy. I was wrong. I used to love my focus, now I despise it, and hope that it somehow catches fire while at the dealer for service. Since November, I've racked up more miles on rental cars than I have on my own car. I think I'll buy a nice, bland, reliable Honda or Toyota next. Though, I have to admit that I would get a great deal of satisfaction from seeing my focus burn.

I bought my car to drive it. I take extremely good care of it and I also do all the maintenence. If something breaks I fix it but I am not going to let my car control me.

when i bought my first one in 2000. it was my first brand new car. so i figured i would do all the good things. wash it regularly, wax it, vacuum. but my lazyness showed up pretty quick and i let things slide. sometimes i would let the washer people clean it. but if it got a ding here or a funky there. i didn't worry about it too much. figure its a car, only a material possesion. enjoy it for what it is and let it age gracefully. [:p]

now that i have a new 06 focus. ill probably be the same way. though i promise this time if i get tree sap on it ill take care of it right quick.
