: My wife gave me the green light...

Well, the other day I took Mike 1 to pick up his car from getting exhaust work, and I made him get next to me and smash it so Amber (my wife) could hear it. She fell in love with all the fun noises that come from turbos (toms kit) and she said "You have to do that!"

So, FI is definitely in the near future, just which path do I want to go...

1) Turbo (toms, custom, etc.) on the SVTF Motor

2) Cosworth kit (I know she wont get the BOV sound, but the Eaton whine is my fav)

3) JR + FRPP Big Boost

4) 2.5L Duratec

5) 2.5L Duratec with turbo

6) 2.5L Duratec with 3.0L Upgrade

7) 2.5L Duratec with 3.0L Upgrade + Turbo

I LOVE the 2.5 motor...coupled with exhaust, the european sound is just....well...sexy.

Anyone want a perfectly good 2.0 SVTF Motor!? ;-)

i'm stocked for you bro....keep everyone posted with details if this all goes through :)
my girl friend and i have been together for like 5 years and she's learned that i love her and i love cars so she supports my modding disabilities, but she enjoys them also.

Well, she's not enlightened on the V6 idea, she just wants the whoosh noises. The V6 is just something I've wanted to do forever.

Why dump that much cash into it? You could put a nice down payment on a Cobra with that kind of money.

here's an idea... go all out and drop a cobra motor in it. ford racing sells the conversion kits :) and then turbo it! if not, 3.4 L blown sho motor.

the sho motor is not a very good motor for turboing or making lots of power on...the 2.5L (3.0L) duratec is probably the best idea for the money. jeremy at focussalvage has done both swaps and told me that that sho motor is simply not worth it.

as far as the cobra motor is concerned, although that would be an amazing swap to do that would net gobs of power it is a very expensive one. i priced it out about 6 months back and assuming you can get good deals on everything plan on spending 10k to get it running, tuned, dynoed, etc. the end result would definately be worth it i just dont know how i would handle the downtime involved as just going a few days without my focus is is hard.

i might if the price is right, it would save me from having to go and buy the svt header conversion.

Heh, I beg for it...

SHO is definitely out. I talked to Jeremy last night, and I'm still up in the air. I still like the Eaton whine and for the money JRSC + BBK or Cosi will probably win the war...

Darth, i think you'd be more than happy with each of those options for the money. the stock svt block is a much better platform to play with than people give credit for. And sh!t, you've spent how many thousands on mods for the 2.0? you'd have to sell all that crap on ebay or something for a fraction of what you put into it if you did a swap.

Toms stage 1 (no intercooler) kit looks promising also, 200 hp + 200ft/lbs at only 7lbs of boost. those are very respectable numbers and some great torque. the new vw gti has the same specs, weighs about 400 more #'s than our cars and runs 14.5 in the qmile with some crap new auto tranny. i think tom could get a svt a little below 14 secs with the appropriate tuning, your current mods, a good clutch/lsd/flywheel combo. this would cost about the same as the power works kit, which comes with the cooler and the supercharger whine we all long for. its really just a matter of personal preference you lucky bastard. have fun.

Yeah the sho in the focus is pretty bad ass but very unpractical. Jeremys borther Ian did a heck of a good job on it but he also invested a heck of alot of time and money. That car looks and sounds mean, and has power to spair. When i drove it you just taped the gas and it would destroy the tires. It has alot of low end tq lol. I know if i heard that pull up next to me it would make me wonder what was going on with that little focus lol.

i dont see why you would through out your motor for a 3.0L ..i think thats a bit much..id say either
-cosi platform w/ beefed up tranny
-toms full kit w/ vvt removal and beefed up tranny

keep in an svt [thumb]

The DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) in the new VWs in not "some crap new auto tranny." It's a manual with two automatic clutches - power transmission is constant; you don't have to back off the gas while shifting. The GTI has a regular 6-speed manual as standard, and most road tests have the DSG as the faster of the two. You could never say that of a torque-converter automatic.

I agree with the rest of your assessment of Tom's Stage I kit in the SVTF.
