I've considered taking out my AC on my ZX5. I have maybe used it twice in the few years I've owned it. I'd honestly rather have the windows down, and it's usually cold in Ohio anyway. I didn't know if significant power gains were attainable without it. Buddy of mine took out his AC on a V6 mustang and said the difference was considerable Didn't know if any of you guys have ever done that before. Hey let me know if any of you guys know. Just curious.... By the way anyone want to buy a slightly used air conditioner for a ZeTEC? (lol)

Good question. I've heard the A/C weighs about 45lbs. That would be a small gain, but hp #'s would be a good question.

you don't really gain any hp at all. the AC disables itself at full throttle anyway, so the pulley just freewheels, eats up maybe .05 hp to turn the pulley. all you're getting from removing the AC is a weight reduction

I agree it does not take much to turn the AC when it is off but will help with weight , You also have to keep in mind what it may do to resale when the time comes to not have it on there anymore

I heard you need to buy a custom belt after you take it out.

cool thanx guys, i guess if there's no power to be had by taking it off there's no point. As far as weight goes, I've got so much shit in my hatch that if I just cleaned it out I'd be a lot better off. Thanx again. [:)]

I'd say keep it in, will definatly help if you go to sell someday.

Only reason I see to remove it........ is to fit a bigger intercooler! :D
