So I prolly should have mentioned this earlier, but in my SVT specific portion of the owner's manual it says the oil filter for the SVTF is an FL400. However, when I purchased the car it had an FL2005. I asked the guy in the parts dept. at Tommie Vaughn and he looked it up and saw the 02,03,+04 SVTFs took the FL2005. Which is right, which is wrong? Is the owners manual incorrect or is the computer at Tommie Vaughn incorrect? BTW I went ahead and put the FL2005 on,per parts rep's recommendation, when I changed my oil and no probs so far.

I just use the book at the parts store and I haven't had any problems....I've had the car for 3 years and I always do it myself...

the FL2005 is correct for the SVTF must be a typo in the manual.

Either will work. I've used the longer one's on all five of my focus's cause of it's increased capacity & filtering capability. No issues.

I guess I should have stated they were Motorcraft filter part numbers, and which one is the "longer" one? The FL400 or FL2005?

The FL2005 is the correct filter.
There was a revision for the 03 and 04 models from the FL400 specified for the 02 model year.
The Motorcraft catalog lists the specs for the FL400 and FL2005 as follows.
FL400
RVOP (Relief Valve Opening? Pressure) setting in PSI 12.5 to 18.5
Efficiency @ 20 microns 80%
Capacity gr 7
FL2005
RVOP setting in PSI 11.6 to 17.4
Efficiency @ 20 microns 95%
Capacity gr 20
So the FL2005 opens the relief valve at a lower pressure, has higher efficiency rating and holds more dirt.
Ironically my 04 SVT had an FL801 installed from the factory.

They all did, or most of them did anyway. [;)]

What is up with an FL801?
Also my dad's Ranger 3.0 V6 requires the FL400 so could he use an FL2005?

There's a brief discussion at the end of the following thread:

The FL2005 is an updated part from the FL400 (I spent a few hours on the phone researching this with numerous places including SVT). The 03's came with the 02 SVT insert as well, so 02 and 03 owners are directed to the FL400 in the insert, but you should get the FL2005.
